Pentagon wants to raise age limit for recruits

I just joined and I leave November 29. Im only 22 but I felt kinda old when I was processed at MEPS with a bunch of kids that had just graduated.

that's fucking crazy. Are there really a bunch of 36-42 year olds trying to join?

Most enlisted are discussing retirement by 40. LOL

Yeah, there are quite a few actually. The majority of them are prior service that want to re-enlist.

Maybe they are getting a little desperate....makes you wonder why people don't want to join up....Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... :)
I want to join up, HIPPIE! I think it's great that they're adjusting age requirements. I'm 28 and I'll probably be the Grandpa of the group. Anyways, I know some 40 year old cats out there that would be great for the Army. :Chef: :tuc:

Remember this: Sooner or later, if you want or you don't want, we are all going to a big war....

So I'm a Hippie now?...People here have seen me in person so whatever. Although, what's wrong with a hippie? I'd rather be that than completely preschool.

If I were to go in at any age other than 18 I would wait until I had a degree and become an officer. That mind set is also caused from being enlisted.

I heard that ... if you're going in as a E-1 at >40 y.o. you must be chronically unemployable.

We have a 34 year old, recently promoted to, E-4 in our shop. He's older than the E-6 and 3 years younger than our E-7.

My mom's boyfriend was offered direct commision O-4 by the Navy, Army, and Army Reserve because of his experience as a doctor.

Noth1ng, are they still letting a lot of Airmen out of their contracts?

Why not? There are 40 y/o men who can run, fight, jump much better than my lazy ass 32 y/o self. :)

They do have waivers for men over the age limit, but certain criteria has to be met.

I think so. My recruiter told me the AF was about 20,000 overmanned so they are getting rid of all the dead weight and also being very selective on who they are letting in right now.

Sounds like the goal is to get some more specialists in the Army, NG & reserves. The shortage of doctors, nurses, chaplains, engineers etc is a problem & by bumping up the age limit, they might get a few more experienced specialists---at least to do a shorter stint in the NG & reserve.

I have considered the millitary several times in my life....the main reason I don't want to join is basic training...I have been working hard the last six years building my body....the way they feed you it would be torn down in three months, that is my fear of the military :)

a noble decision

its a good idea... why not? if you are fit for combat and want to sign up but a bit on the old side why shoudlnt u sign up? as long as u can pass the test

i know alot of guys in the mid 30s who are in awsome shape (have the bodies of like 20 somthings and cardiovascially good too)

I think I'm in the clear.

whats ur take on a felon signing up? assume he has his act straight now and a functioning member of society but wants to inslist?

Very few 40 year old men could put up with that bull**** that they dish out in basic training. It wasn't for me at 22.

That's the reason I wouldn't go enlisted if I joined after I was 18. Officer would be the way. That being said I don't care for officers with no experience being enlisted. Prefer someone who can relate to the troops other than just bossing us around.

BTW, you have my deepest respect.
