PC Help

i bought new PC which only has four USB outlets on back of computers. i assumed the PC would have additional USB outlets on front of the PC to plug in my digital camera. i didnt think of this when i purchased the computer.

all four USB outlets are being used opn back of computer already. it is a pain to pull out the PC and disconnect one of the other devices (i.e. mouse) so i can connect the digital camera.

there must be some way to connect an additional USB cable. do they make USB "splitters?", something comparable to an extionsion cord from an electric outlet with multiple outlets like a power surge protector.

any advice appreciated. sorry i know this might sound very basic to all you young guys who grew up on PCs!

Go to your nearest computer store and buy a USB hub (or two). They're cheap, like $8.00. You plug it into a USB port in the back of the computer and the hub is now basically an extension cord. I have a 4 port hub on my computer.

You just have to remember to unplug the device from the hub properly. On my computer there's a little icon that comes up on the taskbar that if I put my cursor over it says "Safely remove hardware." You right click on it and it gives you the option to safely remove the device, when you choose that option the light on the USB hub goes out then you can unplug.

thank you musclemom! i knew there was an easy solution to this. i just had to purchase several tech items for my home and office. i find figuring out this type of stuff like watching paint dry: so goddamn uninteresting!

I completely understand, my husband and kids are the techno-geeks. Honestly, I literally could not care less about this stuff, I just want it to work exactly the way its supposed to when I want it to! :lmao:

MM got it! you need a usb hub (kinda like this $3.68 TinyDeal - Stylish 4-Port USB Hub or $3.21 TinyDeal - Mini Smart 4-Port USB Hub) there are also USB extenders so you dont have to go to the back of the tower (like this $1.79 - Retractable USB 2.0 Data Cable (75CM-Length) - Cables & Adapters), and there are also splitters such as this one Amazon.com: Adapti 5 in 1 Multi-function USB Charging Data Cable for iPhone and IPod, Mini and Micro USB Cell Phones, Sony PSP, Nintendo Disc, Disc XL and DS Lite: Cell Phones & Accessories that has multiple functions/connectors

Good luck ^_^

i went to Fryes today, which is a big box electronics chain in southern CA. its a cool store, they have everything with terrific prices. i bought a 4 port USB hub. the cable is literally about 1 inch so i had to buy USB extension cable to reach the front of my computer, so i can plug in digital camera.

recently i purchased Bose multimeida speakers for better sound qualify on my PC. (i love watching musici videos on you tube, i wanted to listen in style). the calbe that came with the speakers is only 3" which doesnt reach PC from desktop. so i had to buy a 6" cable also.

the electronics industry always pulls this crap. you always have to buy something ELSE to connect whatever new device properly. then when you have to replace or upgrade you have to relearn it as they change the way it operates.

Just an FYI you can get just about any cable from amazon dirt cheap. Most stores want way to much money for things like optical cables, HDMI etc.

Haven't seen you around for a while Glen but I haven't been on here either, seems to be a bunch of bored old members hanging around lately. LOL>

hi creepus maximus. i think you were my first buddy on here, we used to exchange PMs. good to see you!

i paid a few dollars more for the stuff i needed than some of the posters said it would cost. it is definitely cheaper to purchase electronic stuff on amazon.com but i kinda like shopping at electronics stores, and needed this stuff now.

boy i am thrilled with my new Bose computer speakers! i bought them on amazon for about $83 with free shipping supersaver. amazon.com rocks. what a difference a good pair of multimedia speakers makes.

me too, I love shopping on amazon dot com. Their service is really good. anyway, how is your usb hub now ? does it work ?

perfect. i only needed it so i had extra port for my digital camera. now i am figureing out the fucking software for my new digital camera. why is is SO difficult to figure out how to resize a picture!

the resoluation of then newer digital cameras are better now, which mean a bigger picture. your cant email or send it it is too big without resizing. its such a fucking bore figuring how to learn new electronic products. ya i kinow once i learn it will be easy.
