PBR, Bike Choices?

Hey bor, I just had a guy in my store that saw my pic of the '06 CBR1000RR I want. He said he has a Honda he is selling. He said it is a highly modded
'98 900RR. Some of the mods he told me about were, single sided swing arm, complete exhaust package(can't remember the name), racing shocks front and back, custom black and yellow paint....

He said he used to race for Dunlop when he lived in the states and that the mods he's done to it keep it up with the big dogs!

He's only asking $3750 for it. Do you think it would be worth checking into or should I stay on my current path??

Goin' crazy with this one!! I have ALWAYS LOVED the 900RR design!

HELP!!!!! :worried:

On that exhaust does the name Akrapovic sound familiar?

Only $3700 for a 98? That's not bad if you can live with the mods. If you really like the 900rr then I don't see why buying it would be a bad decision. Make sure you find out ALL of the mods he has made. If he's serious about selling it to you then ask him if he'd be willing to let you 'road test' it for a week or so. Once you ride it you'll be able to make up your mind... I should say your heart will tell your mind what to do. ;)

Good luck, enjoy and keep the rubber side down. :)

hey bro...like ~D~ said you have to know the mods...this is why: fuel??? what type is he able to run? "race jucie only" is gonna be NO good for street...if it requires an additive you might get away with it...hi compression heads- pistons??? make more heat, you might not be able to run cool enough on the street....cam will make gas mileage obsolete- mine is bad enough!!!!....single sided swingarm is trick....its carborated so will she run at low speeds????....MODS are fun, but sometimes they are not good for a streetable scooter...especially if he was a sponsered Racer for Dunlop- chances are the bike is highly modified and useable for track only...can it be street legalized???....lighting- battery??? igniton (key) or switch???...this will not allow you to park the bike and walk away...lots of things to consider...worth looking into tho, for 3700 i would at least check it out in person...you need to take her for a spin on street and freeway tho if youre interested... :p :p

Might of been Akrapovic. It wasn't V&H or Jardine. Gimme some others.

I def need to get more info on the mods. He was in a hurry so we didn't have time to talk too much but he left me his number so I'll call him and get more info.

Part of the problem now is, that last night we got our first official snowfall and there is no riding now until April. :worried: He says he has a couple buddies also interested in picking it up this spring but no commitments. I;ll see if I can at least go over and have him start it up for me.

Will do!

And none of those exhaust systems are ringing a bell. The more I think about it, Akrapovic is sounding more like the one. Is that a good system?

one of the best around!!!!!!!!! :p

If it is infact Akrapovic and he's only selling that bike for $3700 THAT IS AWESOME! The Akrapovic system alone would run you close to $1000-$1200 and they are top of the line.

Good to know! I'm gonna go meet with him this week and check out the bike. I'll get more info and pics and post 'em for review.

you know- it might be worth a purchase just for parts...might be running Ohlins suspension :p ....big dollars right there...~D~ is correct, carbon fiber can get into the 1800 range real quick...

I go tonight at 7:30 to check out the bike. Outside of the normal questions, what should I ask and what should I look for?

just refer back to my original post here on this thread...print it out. just take pics bro..

OK bros, I just got back from checking out the bike. Lets just say I am fukking stoked!!!!
It wasn't Akrapovic exhaust it was a complete Erion Exhaust system, and the bike is actually a '95 frame with a motor built by Erion in '98. Thing sounds AWSOME!! It fired up almost as quickly as he pushed the starter. Of course I forgot what he told me about the shocks but they are def not stock. He has not done any major mods but the sprocket up front is 1 tooth bigger and two in the rear. It does have steering dampers as well.

As far as the single sided swing arm, he has it but has never installed it, it's still brand new. He has all the parts for it to be installed and he is even including a brand new, in the box, rear wheel. He has racing pegs installed and it is set up for 1-up riding, no passanger.

He has taken it up to 185 (pegged the speedo) and said he was only at around 9500 RPM's but had to shut it down before he could top the tach. I asked him if it would do well on a distance trip and he told me he rode it from Fairbanks, Alaska, through Canada and into Montana. So I have confidence it will make my west coast trip this summer.

He told me he originally brought the bike over from Europe. That was the reason for the single sided swing arm. He waas going to get into endurance riding and then decided to move back to the states. The bike has 33,707 miles showing on the odometer but it sounded very tight.

He is also including bike stands, tank and saddle bags, a racing jet kit.and a few other misc. goodies.

I took pics but I need someone to resize them so I can post them. I think I can get PrittyKitty to do it for me but it will have to wait till tomorrow since she is on the east coast.

So what do you think??

Also forgot, it has a polished frame and a custom tail on it which when I get the pics posted you'll probably notice right away.

erion is a solid race bike...i'll tell you more when i see pics...sounds great so far. alot of hard miles on her tho, dont kid yourself. but if she is tight- you cannot go wrong with the price bro... sounds trick.

seriously bro...im not impressed at all. i would walk away. that bike is worked. i dont see anything on there worth a dime, let alone any mods...she looks like she has been sitting a long time- this is not good for "seals" or gaskets, on forks- shocks- engine.

shes been rode hard bro. you have a stock bike with some engine mods??? with 34K miles...no aftermarket goodies that i can see at all... take the 3700.00 put it toward the 06 HONDA CBR 1000RR. in BLACK. sorry man- i would walk away.

questions or thoughts???.....

Really??? You think so? Even with the Erion motor and exhaust?

It looks bad in the pics 'cause it was dusty as hell but he also has all the rebuild kits for the seals on the shocks. He said he has always had Honda do the regular maintenance on it. The reason it looks so dusty also is because he is restoring a truck right next to it. He rode it this summer so it hasn't sat that long.

you know what i see????...a dirty stock bike with aftermarket rear-sets/and a pipe....remember the year??? 95 with a 98 motor (maybe)...11 years old bro. 34k miles? maybe more depending if speedo was disconnected for track time. Stick youre a big bro you make the decision...i could not and would not recommend that bike to you....3700 makes a nice down for an 06. IMO.

I guess I'm just feelin a bit desperate. With my ex trying to put the screws to me with the divorce and all, I don't know if I will be able to afford the '06 at this point. I guess that $3700 is sounding pretty enticing. Do you think there would be a fair asking price for that bike?

Well, I guess I'll play it day by day for now and see how things play out. I'll keep my eyes open for other bikes as well.

Thanks for all your input!

I remember this bike. Very nice and price is nice as well. Two problems though, I don't know if I can come up with $6500 cash, and I def couldn't do anything with it till this summer. I wouldn't want to make you hold on to it for that long.

well my buddy is afraid of it...he's just letting it sit...he's got mass toys, including a Harley he is customizing....no real hurry...think on it...its a good deal for you...

I'll see what I can do to come up with the money, but it won't be easy. I am paying child support for 5 kids. I am waiting for my van to get the head gasket replaced also, but after that's done, I should be able to sell it for about $4000. We'll have to see.
