any of you guys use them regularly?? i've been doing them weekly for about 3 months and have made some great gains. but do you think it's proper to do them above your knee? is that too high?

imo, you should keep them about knee high or just below, the higher ones just don't seem to have any carry over for me, also instead of rack pulls you can build some blocks to set the weight on about 8" off the floor, this seems to mimick the regular pull more that it does sitting on the rack. wade johnson had a good article about those in p/l usa. im no great deadlifter, not even a good one, but this is the advice passed along to me from some very good pullers.

yeah, my knees always seem to get in the way when its set under them. maybe i'm set to far forward? i feel like i'm on the other side of the bar sometimes.

make sure your setting up just like you would be at that point in the pull, the bar should be riding up you legs, you want it as close as possible, if your shins are bleeding, your pulling it correctly :) high socks and baby powder helps.

honestly i think rack pulls are useless unless done for posterior work..i dont think they transfer well to your dead..

the only way i see rack pulls helping is if you have a hard time with your lockout..most people have a hard time getting it off the floor..if this is your problem then doing rack work above the knee is useless..dont overlook a a fast start will help you carry through the lockout..

in my opinion block pulls (where you are elvevated anywhere from 1-5 inches) will build a better dead with lots of starting power as well as speed work..

having said that i sometimes will do rack work from below the knees purely to hit the posterior and use higher reps 10-20

I can't be beleive i am saying this but i agree with wnt2bgay. Unless your major problem deadifting is the lockout i don't see these translating too much to your dead. Most people i see have problems well before they get to the knee when the weight gets heavy, pullling off a three inch platform is probably a much better exercise than rack pulls for most people. This is just my opinion though.

I've seen a lot of guys get hurt with these that don't pull from the floor and haven't adequately built up their posterior chain.

Also, dead lifting is very taxing on your CNS and when you miss one, it is very defeating to your ego. Too often, guys do partials to throw around big weight, use them if you need them, work them in as a ME movement but don't get sucked in by the appearance of being that strong, give it time, it will come regardless.

You'll think me in the end and that's my 0.02... for what it's worth.
