For a domestic flight,a few needles in your checked bag are a complete non-issue. They are actually only looking for explosives. I wouldn't take 50, but I would take 5 without worry.
As far as gear, I would be comfortable checking luggage with a single vial, and no shampoo or other liquids in the bag. Buy your shampoo and body wash at the destination. Can't say why.
Absolutlely don't try to smuggle it in a carry-on or on your person ON the plane. NEVER carry ANYTHING questionable or locally illegal aboard. They consider the act of hiding something to be more serious than possesion. They have no local power to arrest and that's why there are local police at every airport security gate. If they search you (because you were randomly selected, which happens) and find you concealing something, the scene will attract the local police officer and then they may or may not do whatever from there. Never smuggle anything. People think its safer to smuggle it through the checkpoint vs put it in their luggage, and its just not. Its a hundred time riskier to carry vs checking it in your luggage.
It is very safe to check anything that is not an explosive or real weapon. That being said, I wouldn't ever take very much. If, for some unforeseen reason a single vial and handful of sharps is found, its gonna get thrown away or stolen. 6 vials and 50 sharps are gonna be an issue.
And remember this is the internet and anyone can say anything so take the previous stuff with a grain of salt, but heed this warning if nothing else. NEVER CARRY ANYTHING THROUGH THE CHECKPOINT.
You can take a gun in a locked box in your checked bag if you tell them.
