Oprah, Chaz, and Juicing

I think MM and bridger make very valid points. I understand there is a lot more to being a TG then waking up one morning and deciding to want to be the opposite sex. With that said, my perception of what the media (Oprah) presented about how to be a TG was pretty simplified.

As with taking any drug there is a risk/reward associated with it. I will generalize again and say, I think most guys here (and maybe some women) would rather be able to walk into a cosmetic surgeons office and obtain a legal hormone "plan" than go through the risks we take to obtain what we want currently.

I came home from work the other day and my wife was watching Oprah where she was interviewing Chaz Bono. As I walked in, they started talking about "The Transformation" and said "First it started by taking Testosterone".

I sat there and listened and then turned to my wife and said, "So its ok for a woman to want to be a man, and a doctor can prescribe testosterone, but if a man would like to be more of a man, its frowned upon and we would have to jump through hoops to get prescribed testosterone?"

She agreed it didn't make much sense since both situations are personal preference, personal choice, and in each case "this is how we were born" and we'd like to look different. It shouldn't matter if we feel we are a man trapped in a womans body, or if we are a smaller man and would like to be a bigger more muscular man, each person is not happy with their outward appearance and would like to change it.

I see no reason why cosmetic surgeons or plastic surgeons can not provide men with a cosmetic hormone plan (cycle) to help us achieve that goal. Its no different than a woman wanting bigger boobs, men want bigger biceps or legs. A woman can go have surgery in a day and recover in 10-12 weeks. A hormone plan would take 10-12 weeks of hard work by a man/woman to complete their transformation; the bottom line in both cases are results the customer would be happy with (generalizing here, this is a most likely scenario). It would be legal, safer, and under a doctor supervision, whats the problem?

Discuss.

stop using logic, its scary

Changing your gender goes a lot deeper than appearances. It's not about "I don't like being a ____" it is much, much more. I know plenty of people who aren't crazy about their gender, or aspects of it (probably more chicks than dudes, actually) but if you ask them "Do you WISH you were a ____ instead?" They'll usually say "Well, I'd love to try it on for a few days, but to change permanently? Oh, hell no."

TG people making the change are literally to the point where their lives are utterly miserable because their bodies are almost prisons to them.

As for hormonal enhancement for cosmetic purposes. Let's be honest, there are potential dangers of taking long term exogenous hormones and those can be anything from life threatening to permanently damaging to major body systems (for heaven's sake, just look at the potential dangers of a woman taking birth control pills). But more importantly, the fact is, hormonal enhancement isn't going to work the way it should if the patient isn't going to put the sweat equity in. I could see an awful lot of patients being lazy SOBs who want an easy fix just to have abs, bis and a chest. Honestly, look at how many lazy bastards that come into the AAS forum "ready to take the plunge" and don't know the first thing about proper diet and have a totally piss poor exercise regimen AND even after you tell them, time and again what they're doing wrong, and what they need to do before making this commitment, they blow you off and just keep doing what they're doing, then spend buckets of cash on "supplements" and then don't understand why it doesn't work the way they expected it to and all of the sudden they're impotent, or have no libido, or can't get PCT to fix their gonads.

People are generally too stupid and lazy to have the option to ask for legal juice for cosmetic purposes, it would just leave the doctors in vulnerable positions in terms of liability and consider the ripples that could reach into things like amateur sports, and even school athletics. Hell, kids are stealing their parents prescription drugs to get high now, how easy would it be to steal dad's test to get onto the football team and cover yourself by refilling the vial with something out of the kitchen cabinet?

i would rip my kids nuts out through his throat

I agree that anabolics should be legal and obtainable through a physician if desired for body transformation. The risks can be reduced to some degree.

I disagree with your reasoning based on gender transformation. It may sound simple as you make it out to be, simply waking up and deciding you want to be a chick instead of a dude and they get steroids. But it really is much more complex and difficult. I majored in Psychology and part of a course was learning about TG individuals and the transformation. Without going into too much detail, my memory sucks, a major preliminary qualification for someone who wanted to gender reassignment surgery was to meet regularly with a therapist for a couple of years to demonstrate mental stability. and of course a diagnosis of gender identity disorder must be met. After demonstrating mental competence, they live as the desired gender for a period of time to see if that is really what they want. Then they can elect to take female or male hormones to biologically transform. And the final step is surgery if they want to go all the way. I remember that once the individuals start taking hormones, many are content and do not actually go through with the surgery. Although people can and do travel to foreign countries to have blackmarket operations, in the US it is not a simple process that is decided on a whim by people with fleeting desires to look a certain way. Like many of those who use steroids.

good idea, we can make gym leaders (like in pokemon) who are therapists and personal trainers and you have to consult with them for a year to prove you have everything dialed in

TG people making the change are literally to the point where their lives are utterly miserable because their bodies are almost prisons to them.

So what we have here are insane people, suffering from a near-debilitating obsession, and we treat them by fulfilling their fantasy.

just because we can do something, doesn't mean we should. the cosmetic changes of altering your gender don't make you any more or less what you are biologically. an inverted penis is still a penis. just because it looks like a pussy doesn't make you a female. gender is defined by your sexual organs, not your state of mind.

Chaz needs to up his/her/its dose of testosterone, doesn't look like the beard's really coming in very good yet.

I hope roids are illegal forever because I will always be able to get them easily.
If roids were scripted easily at the Docs office for everyone it would be much harder for any given person to differentiate themselves through more muscle/better looks because of the influx of new roid users through legal means. And dont kid yourselves by saying that you are taking roids "just for you", you are trying to look better for the opposite sex. If everyone is able to look better with roids you are going to have a harder go of it, all things being equal.

Think about it robs.
