Online Personal Training Certificate NICE

LMAO at this thread you killed it bikinimom by having to be right, its your way or the highway. I can only imagine if someone would ever walk up to me and have me train them when he could barely walk on a motherfuckin treadmill. get out of here with that garbage

I would change his diet. He eats like shit. my dad lost 70lbs in 90 days and no exercise.

Meth runs in your family?

You have no idea what the fuck you are talking about

Not one person on earth will walk up to you and have you train them if you open your mouth that will be a given.

You have no idea what and how I eat and how I live.

By the way I was shot, hit by flying metal and dropped from the sky when I was your age and continued to fall from the sky for another 15+ years.

All this being said, I have the deepest sorrow for people like you. You are destined to wonder the highway of stupidity till the end of your time on earth. Then you will be worm food, so all is not lost for the planet.

have a great life

grump reminds me of my dad also.

dad is 58, vietnam war hero, his back is fucked up from being a carpenter 38 years. he just fucked up his shoulder and had to get surgery on it to re-attach the muscle.

he always did pushups, crunches, light bb rows, and stretching even though he is in the same shape grump is.

i would train grump like i would train my father.

Igg my bud

Thank your father for his service for me.
Also he doesn't have to actually swim, the water is a great place to work your core, legs and arms. Since you have to remain upright during the exercise your back and stomach are both worked.

Walking in the pool, doing a few movements for 1/2 or 1 hr will help over all tone. As far as lifting, biking, or any other weight movement except some very light arm workout they are prety much a not a chance. No miniscus at all it was left someplace in Cambodia, the bones have been grinding together for a decade or so from working it to maintain mass and playing too hard. So when you look around the gym at all the old people remember someday you will think, damn I was really mean to that old guy and now I am that old guy.

Some time when you call I'll tell you a story about an old guy named Emory I trained when I was working at leisure world teaching water safety for old farts and the pre whatever they call these classes now. I think it was in 1966... Oh well be well my brother! (by the way this kid is a sad fuckstick.)

i swear if i get jumped again i wont be able to handle myself....

Yo glad, so I skimmed most of this thread and what these good people are trying to tell you is absolutely true. This job is about sales. Your job is to talk to people and convince them, that they need to give you their money, if they want to reach their goals. I've been training clients for 6 months now, and am just now started to really figure it out and realize the right things to say, and the wrong.

I have a build very similar to yours, 5 10 190, 9% bf (measured today) While your body is a great selling point it, unless you have the personal skills to match, you are not going to make a penny.

The majority of your clients will be middle aged men and women, people that are new to the gym and are just looking to get in better shape, they aren't looking to have a build of a bodybuilder and don't really care about strength. They just want to be healthy and have an improved quality of life. Also, the majority will need some type of special consideration, due to injury, age, similar to the case BM mentioned. Not to say you won't get some attractive young girls, or guys looking to bulk, but those clients are few and far between, and usually don't have the financial backing to stick with you for very long.

I have the ACSM cert, and I don't think it prepares you at all for the real world of training. Sure, it teaches you some basics of exercise, but this job is very little about the actual exercise. This job is about sales, and marketing. Remember that. Like the others have said, your cert doesn't matter at all, what matters is what your clients think of you.

I figure, if I am able to talk people out of their money, to put the time/pain/sweat/ work in, then I will have the sales skills to sell anything.

When it comes to the training, I will agree with you and Bino, it isn't difficult. 90% of the clients you train will be novices, anything you do to get them moving and off the couch will get them making progress. The tricky part comes from adapting to the individuals needs/wants/expectations and creating a safe and fun environment for them. Some people want a motivations to push them, some people want a friend to hold their hand. You need to be able to play both roles.

Their is however, quite a bit of satisfaction when you see a client that is making leaps and bounds in the right direction. As well as a decent amount of money if you are a good salesman.

PRO's of the job:
-Set your own hours,
-responsible for yourself, and no one else.
-$$$ can be made if you have the skills, live in the right area, work hard.
- free gym membership.
-feels good when clients are succeeding.

Cons -
-you have to sell it.
-you have to do lots of programing, which takes time that you won't be payed for.
-you have to market yourself and must alway be networking - which you don't get payed for.
- Tax benefits
-You can't let your body slide.
-You have to do a bunch of CEC's every year to keep your certification.
-The eyes of everyone in the gym watching you as you train a client, or workout. Judging you along the way.
-Zero job security/benefits.

I'm sure their is a lot more on both sides, but my brain hurts and I don't want to type anymore.

16/hr is setting the bar low?

I call BULLSHIT.

I stopped personal training about 3 years ago and there is NO WAY IN HELL a personal trainer with any old bullshit certification and ZERO EXPERIENCE, who doesn't have to know anything about personal training or be responsible for getting his own clients will get paid 16 dollars per hour by a gym where the PT department is run by a NINETEEN YEAR OLD GIRL. I don't give a damn what state in the union we are talking about here.

.... especially in THIS economy.

oh noez, you didn't go there!!! Team CWBM are gonna crush you!!! don't you know you have to be donald trump and ronnie coleman combined to teach proper bench press technique or what set scheme to go with!! unless you work at a manhattan gym charging 3k an hour, have a business degree from harvard, or have experience rehabbing fatties then you'll never make it as a trainer...it's just too complex! brace yourself bro, you're about to get pwned

Did I read you're only making $16 an hour back four pages ago? No wonder you're doing it for the sex because that rate sucks.

He isn't making ANYTHING yet. He said that the nineteen year old mgr of the PT department (the one he wants to nail) told him that "if he gets any old certification..."

And CEO is beyond accurate. The only reason I took anytime whatsoever is because:

1. at first I honestly thought I could help this guy.

2. I realized he was beyond help. Then it became entertaining. I can type almost as quickly as I can speak so it's no strain. Not to mention I was INCREDIBLY BORED. :whatever:

No one said it was rocket science Bino. All we said was that it wasn't as easy as you might think. You didn't even take a stab at how you would approach training a man like my husband - only Iggy did.

I guess maybe I was an odd sort of trainer in that I would specifically WANT to train all the people that the rest of the trainers couldn't handle. All of the "extreme" cases that I mention were my average client. So when I rattle off all the different types of clients with all the limitations it's because those people were who I regularly trained. :)

I had clients with learning disabilities as well as nuerological issues, MS, wierd dietary restrictions due to disease, morbid obesity, all sorts of injuries in addition to the everynowandthen bored hausfrau and guy who is approaching middle age, excollege athlete who developed a tire around his midsection and wanted to try to go a little bit back in time.

Not to mention that Mr Strap is right in that if you suddenly get a couch potatoe moving OF COURSE they will get some sort of result. But the body quickly adjusts. So what do you do to keep them progressing?... keep re-upping with you? How would you know if they are losing bf and not muslce mass? How would you track their progress, keep them motivated and sticking to their goals?

i've never talked shit about the profession, i just feel confident that i could do the job.
nothing you or CW say to me can change my opinion about this...if it sounds arrogant fuck it then, it's arrogant.
my one hobby in life, the one thing i've done consistently for over a decade, is weight train.
so anyone that tells me i'm not capabler to teach my only passion in life will get a big fuck you.

Bino - there is more to personal training than weight lifting/bodybuilding. The fact that you don't realize this speaks volumes about how little you know about the profession. Nothing more and nothing less.

I was just like you once. I had done two bodybuidling competitions, had transformed my body, everyone was constantly coming up to me in the gym, on the street asking me "how'd you do that?" So I said to the woman who trained me for my shows, "I am thinking about personal training. Heck, I did it with my body so why not get paid to do it for others?"

She looked at me and said, "You think that everyone out there who wants/needs a personal trainer gives a fat rat's ass about YOUR GOALS?"

I was stunned. I mean, she trained me WTF was her problem?

So then she elaborated. She asked me, "So you think that the little old lady who just wants to be able to carry her groceries up a flight of stairs alone is going to be doing hacksquats and benchpresses? What about the ex college athlete who is now middle-aged, has high blood pressure, 50 extra pounds, old injuries whose been a couch potatoe for the last 25 years? You gonna have him run on the treadmill to drop a bit of bf? What about the woman who has been yo-yo dieting for nearly her entire life? What are you going to do to jumpstart her metabolism and get her on the path to physical activity limiting her risk of injury?

I looked at her like a deer in headlights.

She was absolutely right. So when I DID make the leap I made damned sure that I learned as much as I possibly could about every single condition/limitation that came my way. That was just one of the aspects of the job that I loved, the fact that I was constantly being mentally challenged; learning new things. :)

Do you mean that the rate is too high? Because I made 2x that when I was just starting out and make 3-4x that now, even with the facility owner taking a cut.

You made 32$ an hour THEN and now you make $64? What the hell does the gym charge the client and where do you live?

You made 32$ an hour THEN and now you make $64? What the hell does the gym charge the client and where do you live?

The gym starting out charged $75 an hour - now depending on the client I charge anywhere from $80-$110 and keep 65%. This is in Toronto, Canada - $75 an hour is the going rate even at chain gyms where they hand you a trainer who has zero experience.

However, I have been doing this for 9 years, have TONS of knowledge and referrals under my belt. I train people to qualify for the Boston Marathon and Ironman triathlons and have a five year track record of people hitting their PB's. Plus I rehab injuries in affiliation with a couple of physios. Regular weight loss people I just pass off to others because it doesn't motivate me.

One of my current clients is 53 and came to me ten weeks ago with a piriformis/sciatic injury that had her barely able to sit at her desk, and now she's back on the court 2x per week fully functional. That's what I do this for.

BRAVO!!! I remember the tremendous sense of accomplishment when my clients would reach their goals, many times they would surpass them. Every now and again someone would fall by the wayside, but such is life.

That is Canadian dollars then... I see. I am not up on matters of currency so 9 years ago I would like to know the equivalent in USD.

But I do believe you that after 9 years and clearly CARING ABOUT LEARNING AND HELPING SO MANY CLIENTS that you have no trouble commanding higher pay.

The pay in the US is ridiculously low for any trainer starting out and gets marginal slowly. There are those that excel and actually go on to become fairly successfull but the road to that success is long and hard. Many burn out long before they get there and simply go on to different career paths.

I know, it is actually the same here depending on the place. One gym I worked at three years ago got bought (Bally's when it went under) and the new owners came in and said that they were going to charge $75 an hour still but only pay trainers starting out $18. I laughed at them and walked out, taking all my clients with me.

The guy I work for now does it fair - even split at the beginning and then if they renew (which is obviously because of the trainer) it goes up to 65%. I also run a coaching service where I keep 75% of monthly fees because he does nothing except promotion and marketing.

no shit its a waste of time its the internet

LOL @ you being a 21yr old posting on a bodybuilding forum you "bought" ur $100 degree to work at some bogus gym and bang a 19 year old..... we're all fucking proud of you kudos ur doing the right thing, u ROCK!!! :lmao:

Yup, the gym where I worked and the others where I looked for employment afterwards charged the clients anywhere from 75$ to 100$ per hour but the trainer would only get anywhere from 10$ to $22.50 and that was only when you trained the client and based on how much you sold that month. If that client bought a package where they were locked in at say 65$ p/hour then regardless of which trainer inherited them (there was a pretty big turn-around in trainers as you could imagine because the pay was so fucking crappy) that trainer would only get 10$ for training that person and it was PER SESSION. So if you quit, got canned, or that person stopped coming for whatever reason YOU DIDNT GET PAID.

As for taking your clients with you - IMPOSSIBLE. The gym made it near impossible for anyone to get out of their membership contract.

I interviewed with many gyms and different "train the client at home" franchizes and the pay was equally shitty. If I would have decided to try and get my own clients and train them in their homes then I would have to consider:

1. Liability insurance (which was not financially feasible for me at the time).

2. Advertising, etc (I could barely support myself and my kids.)

3. Gas, tolls, wear and tear on my car - travel time to and from. Single mom of four in the middle of bitter custody battle; just didn't work for me.

No one at ANY GYM (big or small) would let you bring your own clients in to train them, whether they were members or not. They had their own PT staff. You could skate by a bit here and there shortterm but it doesn't take long for them to catch on.

You obviously had a different and tougher experience than I did. I have my own liability which costs me $300 a year plus what my certs give me just for backup. My clients laughed when the gym threatened them because they were paying $75 a month for their membership and $600 a month for me - which would you rather sacrifice, especially when I could work them out at home or elsewhere just as effectively?

Advertising - referrals and word of mouth. Free. Plus I networked like mad.

I'm glad it worked out for you. Your clients obviously recieve tremendous benefit from training with you. :)

It KILLS ME some of the shit I see the grossly incompetent trainers telling their clients to do, not watching/coirrecting their form, obviously not giving a shit about their client.

I am also glad that things worked out for me the way they did. (Well, in many regards, but not all LOL) I am much happier with the way things are going for me professionally now.

Honestly dude, you really don't know what you're talking about when it comes to actually being a trainer. The ex-wifer's been one for over 10 years and her lasting clients aren't people that just wanted to get in shape. Just about everyone I know that has that goal either bought a package of 10 or so sessions to get ready for a wedding or has gone to a friend to help them get into it. Her lasting clients are people with MS, back problems, COPD, emphyzema (sp?), arthritis, heart issues, etc. They go because they need a change in lifestyle and they need someone that knows how to improve their health and quality of life. She has a good amount of people that go to stay fit and don't have the motivation or time to do it unless they make a financial committment. If you go to Gold's or a lot of other chain gyms you'll see shitty trainers training people the wrong way. Gold's trainers get paid $7 per hour, BTW. Some of the trainers at the ex's gym are making over $60 per hour, depending on their certs and level of education. You're comparing training to what someone could get out of a Muscle & Fitness magazine, not what a good trainer does.

To all those jabbering back and forth with this fuckstick, or those who think they've owned him, or those who have made good points:

Waste of time. It's like arguing with a wall. A stupid white wall.

You know why I can't stand turdgladiator? Because he's so g'damned arrogant but has nothing TO be arrogant about. He thinks he's better than just about everyone and that he's smarter than those of us who bother to respond to him contradicting what he says. The little fucker is laughing at us and eating up all the attention, negative or otherwise.

And he has a problem with women over 30, and that really pisses me off. A man can say something bitchy to him and he laughs it off. A woman says something similiar, forget it.

Look, I don't care what your personal opinions about her are, the shitass called Bikinimom a hag. Ain't nobody on this board, whether they personally like Bikinimom or not, that is going to say that she could be considered, in any shape, form or fashion, a HAG. That is a beautiful lady with one hell of a body.

Oh, and anyone who says this is a YG alter, I'm sorry, he's dumber and snottier than YG ever was.

MM, I consider the source. There was a time when such verbage *may have* gotten under my skin but that was ancient history. I have learned where to invest energy and where to *just pass time*. With this particular person it changed to *just passing time* THE SECOND he posted disrespectfully towards my husband, a man who earned respect risking his life when this youngster's father was getting HIS SNOTTY NOSE wiped by HIS GRANDMOTHER. Maybe his grandmother didn't do too good a job and his father took it out on him? :whatever: Maybe that is why gladiator has no respect for his elders. Who knows? Not our problem, is it?

But what REALLY got stuck in my craw is how rude and nasty this fellow was to MY HUSBAND, espcially in light of the fact that my Old Grump reached out to him off the boards by offering to try to hook him up with peeps who might have been hiring in construction in the state where he resides.

As you know we try to help where we can. When we can't we try to lend supportive words or at the very least, an ear.

Both my husband and I now *play*... sorta like the Old Grump's Rottweiler's would do with squirrels, until they got bored and then ATE. :D

What irks me is you've been on his side, and he disrespected you when you've been trying to help him.

I do have to agree with you about one thing you said to me privately, I don't actually think he's bad, either. Bad would imply direction and conscious decisions. I'm not sure he's capable of thinking beyond his next physical impulse.

Gym Instruction / Personal training makes shite money where I live (just above minimum wage).

Despite having a national 2 year HND in health, fitness & exercise I wouldn't feel comfortable progressively training people with moderate to serious medical conditions - pretty much speaks volumes about the calibre of your run of the mill gym instructor / trainer.

To be fair though my course is geared more for well rounded instruction rather than specialist stuff like doctor referrals, high level sports etc.

I'm not sure he's capable of thinking beyond his next physical impulse.

I'm pretty sure he isn't.

Not a personal slight, just making an observation. You were right about the bouncer thing too. Way too hotheaded, would end up getting his ass kicked or kicking the shit out of some guy who could have been the shown the door instead of being made to eat some cement which would mean lawsuits, headaches for the establishment. Impulse control would definitely be a negative when considering bouncing.

Believe it or not one doesn't have to be terribly smart to tend bar. With the new touch screen computers/inventory controls a bartender doesn't even have to know how to do math or even worry about the pour. They just have to have a fairly decent memory. All gladiator would have to do is wear a skin tight T-shirt and flash his pearly whites at the fellas and I am telling you, he would be making MAD BANK. Who knows, mebbe even find a nice guy who would support him until he figured out what he wanted to do with the rest of his life?

Meh, he's gonna SHOW US though making a ton of money with his 100$ online certificate working UNDER a chicka that isn't even old enough to legally purchase an alcoholic beverage or sign for her own medical procedures. I can't imagine the emasculation involved.

Oh wait a minute... we are talking about the same dude who got dumped by his fiancee who finally got tired of supporting him.

NEVERMIND THEN. He will be just fine. :D

Every successful bartender I knew personally was damned canny, you know what I mean? Lot of street smarts.

I do think an enormous percentage of all young men's problems is that they have this overwhelming fear of homosexuality and freak out when they have natural homoerotic impulses. I honestly think everyone should just get in bed with someone of the same sex at least once and get it over with. Totally resolves any questions, fears or worries you may ever have, you know where to put homosexuality on your personal scale and you understand what you're feeling when you find someone of the same sex unusually attractive or appealing.

actually whats wrong with that picture, getting a bullshit degree to get a job to work for a bangin 19 y/o, yea a real big LOL on that

I'll LOL when im fuckin her and thinkin why the fuck this isnt the best time of my life right now

stroupe im wearin them now , i didnt fuck her either. maybe eye fucked her but that saved my emotions

musclemom i will never ever find the same sex appealing. there are attractive guys yea you can tell if a guy gets girls or not but to say get in bed with one? why would i want to put homosexuality anywhere on my personality scale? Its at a fuckin 0 right now because 0 is for bullshit. So you want me to go to bed with one so i can put it to 3 or a 4, maybe say its not as bd as i thought but definetly not worthy of a 5?

How do you not see how dumb you are

I really wish you could appreciate how stupid you make yourself look.

you are stupid if you think i wont be having the greatest time of my life because of this job and the protein bitch
No, really, if you're thinking of this actually being a job, as in, trying to make money at it and having a future in it (and the way you're talking you seem to really want to make a go of this), do not have sex with that woman. Oldest work axiom on there is "Don't shit in your own nest."

Although something tells me you're the type of person that steps in shit and comes out smelling like a rose, which is half of where your cockiness comes from ... you haven't been knocked down a peg or two by life yet

the dude never emailed me back, he said hed see what he oculd do and that was it.

Who didn't email you back? If memory serves (I could be incorrect. My husband is working on a proposal worth 7 - 10 million dollars right now so I am not going to bug him for the PM exchange) he PM'd you his cell and told you to call him IF you were serious to see IF he could point you in the right direction.

Me, I am sitting on my ass doing a whole lotta nuthin right now.

are you people THAT bored that you continue to respond and argue? seems senseless to me. but then again, I'm just old....and tired....and not willing to waste the time and energy. Honestly, the fact that you would spend days arguing with someone you deem as stupid pretty much puts you in the same boat as the person you are trying to debate with.

are you people THAT bored that you continue to respond and argue?
Yes. I wasn't in the "in" crowd in high school so I never got to do stuff like this when it was age appropriate.

What MM said.

That, and I'm bored and in need of inane distraction. We are having a shitty time here for a host of reasons and this piddly back-n-forth is amusing and I am not ashamed to admit it. :)

here's a different approach.

go do all this shit. take pics, etc. to provide us proof. i'd like to see all this shit go down.

fuck that 19 yo. don't even ask permission...wait until she bends over to pick something up. report back on the results.

go up to the oldest person in the gym, and start training him/her. again, don't ask, just do it. if he/she isn't injured within 10 minutes, golden.

i want shots of all that protein, too. fuck, you should make this a blog event.

You da man...

How long you give him before he posts up that "the crazy 19 yr old bitch" didn't hire him because his 100$ online training certificate never came in the mail and she had a wide ass anyways so he thought about it for a minute and wouldn't let that bitch suck his cock if she begged him to.

... that and it would have made baby jesus cry.

Ok sonny, not only are you a liar but you are as dumb as a box of turds.

Now that you thew down the pink glove of yours here is our PM exchange. Otherwise I would have held it in confidence as I have with many many people here.

PS for your benefit since you are obviously very challenged the first part is the last thing you typed. And since your attitude would reflect poorly on me the last thing I would do is refer you to them, they would bend you over and take you from behind and then the secretary would turn you over to the men.
Thanks for takin the time to email me and offer to make some calls, I appreciate it.

I will listen to you guys more, you have after all been through a lot more than me.

Ill call you soon

There was nothing to squash. I merely respond to words typed on an internet chat forum.
I have a few men I know in the Sacramento area I imagine you are looking for a labor job, I will make some calls when I have a few minutes.
As far as getting respect that is something you have to figure out how to earn. Perhaps you might start by not being so adversarial and trying to speak to things you really don't understand or have experience in.

My wife and I have met a lot of people in real life from elite, we opened our house to a few last summer and they came, stayed and ate with us for a week.

We are real people and don't play games in our real lives and the interent is no exception to that rule.

So as far as you are concerned, I will make some calls to see what I can do for you and as long as you are a gentleman I won't call you out.

If you need some advise or need someone to talk to that is older and more experienced please feel free to call me. My number is in the first message.

You may call me if you wish so we can talk.

Bro, I just bought a sandwich too.... Bout da same.

One thing BM & I never do is lie, we don't cheat, we always do everything possible to help another person and we don't do anything to intentionally harm another. (Unless they happen to walk up to me and ask for my watch or wallet of course you know the rest on that one)

i love it when baby jesus cries. just kidding omg.

You know you're going straight to hell for that.

I know this because gladiator told me so. I think he said he read it in some book somewhere... er sumthin' so gosh yea, it must be true. Either that or he read it on the internet so that makes it REALLY real.

How can someone be that stupid?

Honey, are you done with the proposal that you said would be done an hour ago?

I have to hit the pool. Hold down the fort and bring some money in, would you?

You mean to tell me that YOUR DIRECT SUPERIOR will be a nineteen year old girl?

I do NOT envy you. Talk about drama bullshit just waiting to happen.

So you have a 45 year old guy, retired military, broke his back 12 years ago, recovered but has limitation, has been a computer guy since he got out of the service after his injury. He's got high blood pressure and is about 30 pounds overweight.

Where do you begin?

give him a kit-kat and send him on his way.....
