Olympia contestants and Worlds strongest men

Im curious how the olympia contestants would do in WSM competition. I know theyre bodybuilders not powerlifters so its not their mo, i seem to think that coleman might tear up the competition. or Jackson

Athleticism is a big part, very little vanity involved. Theres are a lot of bodybuilders that were were once athletic but became strong, quit being athletic.

Still would be kewl to see, that's for sure!!!

Over at Gripboard.com they are obsessed with feats of gripping/hand strength. Someone there wrote that Ronnie Coleman was seen attempting to close an IronMind Captains of Crush Gripper # 3, 280 lbs, but Coleman couldn't do it. He got pretty close, but not all the way.

By way of comparison, about 150 guys have been certified as closing the # 3 (not me!), while many other members of Gripboard.com have also closed it but have not been officially certified.

I think this says that huge guys like Coleman have tremendous base strength, and with a lot of training could be competitive in various strength contests, perhaps, but it's not a slam-dunk given.

i'd imagine that a few (obviously coleman comes readily to mind) would have the strength.... ironically though, they'd have to up the fat levels to be able to take the brutality of the strongman comp.

Ronnie Coleman, Jonnie Jackson, Chris Comier, would probably do the best of the pro's.

Most bodybuilders don't train for strength and endurance so most would do horrible at strongman. I've been in the gym with Ronnie Coleman and was fairly unimpressed with what he was doing. I know he can do more, but the guy was sweating his ass off doing incline skull crushers with 150lbs, and breathing heavy. Give him 300lbs in each hand and ask him to walk 200ft with it and he'd probably die. As mentioned these guys don't train to do strongman so they'd be way out of their depth even if they were strong enough to do the events. Besides the size to height ration really effects several of the events so the fact that most pro BB guys are under 5'10" would be a huge detriment to their performance aside from carrying excessive bulk.

ronnie played college football at grambling so he has an athletic background. but im not so sure he'd have the endurance for some of the wsm events. but who knows, light weight babyyy!!

Not unless he dropped some of that muscle mass. Manfred Hoeberl had the same problem, his muscle mass was what held him back. He would go threw half a tank of oxygen after every event. Kaz also had a similar problem.

i'd imagine it's the low bf rather then the muscle mass.

Low bodyfat? that has nothing to do with it.

Manfred himself said it was his muscle mass that was a disadvantage for him sometimes. Grizzly Brown also said thesame.

i don't know bro, manfred may have said it himself, but from whatever i know, the bf does help with strength and stamina. i know what your referring to though. they say that the bigger muscles end up accumulating more lactic acid during the comp so that he may do well in the first event and screw up in the subsequent ones.

THEY WOULD BE CRUSHED...THEY ARE FAR, FAR, FAR TOO WEAK!!!

THE HEIGHT, SPEED, AND ENDURANCE REQUIRED WOULD KILL THEM, ALONG WITH THE FACT THAT THEY HAVE NOT TRAINED TO USE THEIR BODIES AS ONE UNIT!!!

Phil Pfister is a giant you have to be big, strong, fast, athletic and fit.

a shot putter, powerlifter, Olympic weightlifter would be much, much better, although JP Sigmarsson was also a BB'er !!

Its simple. Power lifters build there body to do something. BB's make there bodies into sculptures that do nothing. simple as that.

If you look at the WSM finalist over the last 20 years the majority have wide hips and thick bones and joints. Traits that aren't acceptable in pro bodybuilding.
Ronnie Coleman is hella strong, but doesn't have the bone structure to make it far in WSM IMO. I'd love to see him prove me wrong.

The insane strength is not with the BB'ers, anf Phill Pfister looks nothing like a body builder!
