OK...so now it's the 3rd hurricane heading our way!

The messed up thing about these forecasts is that they're just guesses. Charlie took a sudden sharp turn only 15 minutes before making landfall which was about 4 hrs. before it was really supposed to hit land. They say if it continues on it's northward path the storm will loose intensity and that's a good thing. A cat. 5 hitting land would be devistating.

My thoughts are with everyone in the Caribbean, the Gulf, Florida & the Carolinas/GA every hurricane season. I lived in Ft. Lauderdale for 12 yrs, kicking off w/ Andrew. The last 4 yrs I owned a flimsy little townhouse 3 blocks from the beach on a canal with "blow out walls" and 8 feet of surge before the water comes in my back door. When Floyd was coming, I gave a friend of mine 2 12 packs of beer to cut me some plywood from his boatyard & drill it directly into the back of my house to cover the sliding doors. I've packed everything I own a couple of times in a panic & lots power for 3 days when Hurricane Irene came blowing thru my backyard & watched green pops all over town while power transformers blew.

Then I spent a winter in Minneapolis.

Now I'm back south, but not as far south, and I have friends from the last 1/2 of my life who come up & stay w/ me when the storms start coming. Yes I sweat every hurricane season & I'm damn glad I moved. I don't have to have windstorm insurance anymore. (PHEW!) But my heart goes out to every person who has to go through those evacuation exercises. I feel for anyone who worries about where they will keep their pet if the shelters won't take them. I hear the gory details about getting power back up from a good friend who works for FPL. I have one friend who was near landfall of Francis & my parents' condo is now in the path of Ivan.

Welcome to Paradise.

But as always, we endure.

Hey Puddles, did you have much damage from Charley or Frances? I have friends and relatives that live down in your area and fortunately they did not have any catastrophic damage. I think you are safe from Ivan cause he's gonna hit the Panhandle where I am and is predicted to be very strong Category 3 or minimal Category 4 at landfall. Even if he goes further west, we will still get northeast quadrant which is the worst place to be. :( And like you, we have been prepared and re-prepared for all of these d*** storms. It is getting old.

To everyone else who is in the predicted path, take care and be safe!
