Official CroCop vs Gonzaga thread

I love the UFC being unpredictable, who would have though Gonzaga would have been the one landing the head kick KO.

b0und (like damn)

he seemed to be standing fine during his interview at the end despite the odd way his leg fell underneath him

he didn't seem quite so arrogant though

he looked past his boy, just like GSP did with serra........sucks. But he's not overhyped.....he just needs to become a complete fighter. He still may have lost that fight even if it weren't for the head kick....which I do think was "somewhat" fluke.....he saw it coming, just though it was going low, not high. Kudo's to Gonzaga for throwing a high leg kick. Kid is stacked.......definitely a big boy, Couture is going to have his hands full.

Well said. CroCop IS NOT overhyped. Regardless if he lost night or not, he is still one of the top 5 HW in the world. CRoCop is the real deal.

Why would you interview him after he just got his ass kicked? What do you think he's going to say? Well, yeah he kicked me in the head and then everything went black and I woke up with my ankle under my colon. WTF?

Cro Cop overhyped?? omg I've NEVER heard that!! He is a NASTY well-rounded fighter. Anyone can get caught..no doubt. Props to Gonzaga..plus he's out of Boston...heh heh

I'm surprised Cro Cop could stand on his own during the post fight interview. Man must have some mad flexibility in his leg if he can dislocate all the joints in it by twisting it up like a rubber band, then put them all back together to give an interview.

Alot of people will be calling this win for Gonzaga a fluke, although Gonzaga wouldn't agree. I guess only time will tell.

He was seen with a limp as he walked in the airport after the fight. CroCop said his ankle ligaments were stretched but he would be fine. That is the report for now.

Gonzaga totally nullified Mirko's striking. Gonzaga's victory was no fluke. Gonzaga owned the distance in that fight and it was a classic example of effective ring generalship. Gonzaga's high right kick was thrown with excellent timing, precision, and speed. It's not like Gonzaga was getting beaten down by Mirko, closed his eyes, started flailing with strikes, and managed to land one on the button. That kick was thrown with a specific intention.

Mirko is a top fighter. Just look at the competition he has bested. He's not overhyped. Perhaps Gonzaga also belongs in that upper enchelon.

Well fucking said!!!!

Think of all the great fights that can happen in the UFC heavyweight division. The UFC heavyweight division talent pool went from 0-60 in the blink of an eye. Nogiera/ Cro Cop 2, Arlovski/ Couture, Gonzaga/ Arlovski, Nogiera/ Couture, and a host of others.

Gonzaga v. couture is going to be a really good match.........couture can nullify Gonzaga's ground game.....so I'll be interested to see if Gonzaga keeps it standing too. I'm really starting to see a trend in fighters.......it seems the guys with the really good ground game, who are not afraid to go down.....seem to be the most aggressive strikers as well. As good a striker as Lidell is, he's a counterpuncher. Nobody's made him come to them yet. The top guys now who are knocking people out also are the guys whom everyone fears for their ground game. Makes sense........if you're not afraid to get taken down.......you'll come in firing.

I'm thinking Couture/ Gonzaga could be very tactical and a snoozer if you like fireworks. Couture/ Nogueira would be a barnburner. They both have good boxing skills, Couture likes the takedown and top game while Nogiera has an iron jaw and extremely active guard. Both guys have limitless gas tanks. There isn't going to be a range where they wont be whooping on eachother.
