Observations about training after age 40

I'm 42 and it seems I'm just bouncing from one injury to the next. Been active my whole life but "lifting" for about 14 years. So let's run through this:

Degenerating lower back from two deployments.
Arthritis in both elbows.
Prone to impingement in both shoulders; currently left one hurts.
Cardio declining.

I've been on TRT since about age 35 but I never feel better as when I'm on something "extra".
 
Great thread! Like some of you guys mentioned, it seems that a lot of the things you do outside the gym eventually catch up to you when you're training. I was especially bad when I was younger, lifting things I shouldn't have, trying to act like a tough guy helping people move - wish I could go back and change some of those moments! And no matter how ergonomically correct I try to be, desk work hasn't done my back any favors. So smart training is a must for me these days.
