I've been reading some articles on the optimal no. of repetitions per set for optimal hypertrophic effect. There is some controversy concerning that. While most bodybuilding coaches favor 5-8reps, some authors point out that 8-10(or12) would result in greater muscle growth. They claim fewer reps + higher loads are associated with ballistic movements, which short-circuit motor unit recruitment and activate only the largest fibers. Thus, they claim, this strategy would fail to cover the widest possible range of muscle fiber activation.
