Nicotine and leptin levels

I personally think substituting something like EC for nicotine is a lot like giving a heroin addict some methodone to keep them off of the heroin. I also don't know that a drug like nicotine would be measurably better for a dieting BB than the good old EC stack. They are both addictive to a certain extent, curb appetite, and increase beta adrenergic lipolysis.

One thing that is certain, your friend is better off taking nicotine in gum or patch form (or other drugs such as WellButrin, EC) than taking up smoking again if it's just weight control he's after. It's not the nicotine that kills smokers...it's the smoke that kills them and innocent bystanders.

I was thinking about this as I did my evening cardio. My friend is pretty high strung, so there's no way he could do an EC stack. I know he's a little disturbed by how obsessed he's getting with food, but I think I just need to preach willpower.

As far as nicotine and fat loss, Dante over at Avant Labs had some pretty interesting posts on his experiences with nicotine stacked with either EC or Yohimbine. He said it not only further reduced his appetite but also helped lean him out faster. Yes, I know - very anecdotal, but interesting.

About a month ago I quit smoking but I'm smoking again...I will be quitting again soon with some help from a doctor this time.

Anyway, when I quit a month ago I stuck to my normal diet and within one week I gained 10 lbs. I absolutely did not eat more than normal and I actually did some cardio which I normally do not do and I drank more water. When I started smoking again, the weight gain stopped. Since then I've lost the weight I gained. I don't know why this happens, but every time I've quit in the past I've put on weigh insanely quickly and I've always been guarded about any increases in food consumption. The longest period I quit for was when I was pregnant and nursing. At that time I gained 60 lbs and kept it on until I resumed smoking. I hadn't thought about this before...but in retrospect, when I started smoking again, thats when the weight started to come off.

Just figured I'd share my experience here.

maybe I am strange, but 2 years ago I quit smoking for 6 months, cold turkey.

I didnt gain any weight, in fact I think I lost some because I used the gym to get relief from all the pent up stress and cravings....however at that time I also started using ECA and cut out white carbs intake by alot.

unfortunately i started smoking again...

I lost about 4 kilos when I quit smoking - I was on thermos, not following any specific diet, but doing a LOT of exercise, and I used the patches.

When my sister quit smoking, she was attempting to follow an exercise and diet plan, but didn't have the goals I did, and truthfully doesn't much care for exercise, and she put on close to 20 kilos over a year or so. She comlained constantly about having NO energy - could barely drag herself out of bed ... She finally got pissed, her relationship broke up, and she started smoking again. Without any extra effort whatsoever, she lost the 20 kilos again within a matter of months.

Now she's absolutely petrified to quit again :(

JJ - I remember a guy on the diet board ... just can't remember his name ... he used to post a lot on leptin, had a lot of questions for Par Deus on leptin - anyway - he used nicotine gum and perhaps the patches to fairly good effect. When I remember his name I'll let you know.

Good luck to your friend - really, he should do anything he can to not start again.
