Female Body Builder Nicole Bass Dies During Training

New York (March 31, 2002 6:03 p.m. EST) - Female Body Builder Nicole Bass, claiming to be "the largest woman bodybuilder in the world", has died. Bass was a former competitor in the 1997 Ms.Olympia contest. Bass recently fell ill to an undisclosed disease and, in an earlier telephone interview, the previously 6`2" 230 lbs weightlifter had complained of "losing all of my muscle mass". However, Bass returned to the gym in February 2002, claiming a full recovery. She collapsed during training Sunday while attempting a "dead lift" of 405 lbs and never regained consciousness. Bass was pronounced dead at the scene. A coroners report is pending.
