Just starting getting into pl, but having found this site, wanted to tell you that this is the best board I have ever seen as far as information and attitude. There's already so much I've read or seen on here that I can identify with issues in my own lifting. I am incorporating some westside into my training as far as ME/DE, but chains are out where I lift (on campus). I have never competed, and don't know if I ever will, but when I start putting up some real weight, I'll give it another thought. My PRs are pretty awful, but having played baseball for the past 17 years, my training has been quite different. I am 22, 5'11" and since June have gone from 200 to 225lbs.

My PR in bench has gone from 255 to 305(12/3) since June. I failed twice today tryin to put up 3 wheels. Got it about 4" off my chest and held it there for a good 4 seconds before I needed it lifted. I have never done speed work, so the next few months should be pretty interesting. Also, and you guys may laugh, but a friend of mine who has been into pl'ing for a good 8 years pointed out that my grip was too close...I wasn't even touching the power rings. Funny what kind of habits the high school baseball coaches get you into. I also have almost no arch and minimal leg drive. I never even heard about using lats in your bench. So I feel like I'm learning to do it all over again. I'm fired up to see what will happen when I get all the technical stuff fleshed out and get into the Westside training.

My squats have been BB style, narrow legs since high school football, so another technical problem, but all my PRs are in the gym. And as they stand 365/305/405. No gear in any: belts, wraps or anything. In the process of getting a belt.

Anyway wanted to say hey and hope to learn a lot from you guys. Seems to be a lot of help here and impressive lifts, so I'll keep you all posted.

Welcome, Furg. You can learn a lot here. I look forward to watching your progress. I, too, am just starting Westside training.

Furg,
I too am fairly new to PowerLifting, I've been in for about 8 months now. You mentioned competitions, and one major piece of advice I can give you is to compete. Compete no matter what. Compete, if you suck. Compete if your Elite. Compete, compete, compete. Your lifts sound very solid for a non-PL'er, and if you've read these boards for long, you know that this is a sport of PR's. Break your own record and you have succeeded. I entered my first comp about a month ago, and I have never trained better since. Immediately your goals become crystal clear, and your training gains tremendous purpose. If you live anywhere in the Mid-West, it would be a great time to go to the St. Louis or Oklahoma meets. You will be able to meet many of the people from this board, all of which were so helpful to me in my first meet that I am now hooked forever. Anyway, I'm off my soap box now. Good luck in your training, and hope to see you in St. Louis.

Thanks for the welcome. Genemachine, I hear ya, it hasn't taken me long to want to get into a competition...being a competitor doesn't go away. I am actually from just outside Chicago, but am in school in Boston right now. Last year I'll be here, but after graduation I am moving to Minneapolis, so I'm psyched to get my lifts up and meet some of you. I've been soaking up the info from this board and have so much more still to read, so I'm gonna get back to it and get myself up for deads tonight.
