New to Elite---Looking for NYC Fighters

I'm usually on Anabolex, and came across this board on Elite. I'm looking for a gym in NYC that trains Muay Thai/kickboxing and maybe some ground fighting. I have a jobsite near NYC that I visit a couple times a month, so I'd like to take advantage of that, and train in NYC.

Looking for somewhere to spar/workout without having to take a 'class'----you know something a little more informal.

Well , Phil Nurse (multi-time european MT champion) runs Drop In classes over at "Wat" http://thewat.com/enter.html , but they ARE Classes , one of the few places that I think would let you work out like you want is NYKK Gym . David Ross over there Should let you have some free space if you talk to him , but he has some pretty great Training , his Clinchwork and Standing Grappling classes are pretty darned good , man . www.NYSanDa.com (212) 239-8619

I've already tried to contact Phil (via email), as I knew him previously---he worked the corner for one of my fights a couple years ago. I never thought of the NYKK gym, so I think I'll check that out too.

Thanks for the help....

If you want to talk to Phil youll probably have to walk in to the Friday Clinch Class ... It was 25 bucks a couple of months ago when I went .

Oh , and if youre over 6'4" bring your own Jumprope ! My feet STILL have marks on them !

Djimbe,

I just looked at your location, and I see you are in Allentown. Where do you train? The jobsite I'm talking about in my post is not far at all from Allentown, so maybe your gym would even be closer????

Im so damned Frustrated by the Scene here in ABE that Im going to be Opening my own Facility here in a couple of Months . The places that DO have the Fqacilities really do charge too much to Drop in , even like the local GYMS charge you like $25/day here . My wife pays 100 (NYC Prices) for her MT training , and , well , while I like the guy that Trainbs her PERSONALLY , its really costing that because hes the only game in town , not because hes some great Kru or anything . I should be uip and Running by March at the Latest , and it really WILL be just a place where ppl can use the Facilities or rent out to run Classes if they like . I may , IN TIM teach something or other , Maybey a San Shou Rules class or something , but I doubt it , Id rather just pay for the space to Set Up and train the way I like my own way if its going to cost me a Ruddy fortune anyway .

But to let you know this isnt a "Pipe Dream" or something that MAY happen , Im doing it , I just have to Pick oput the Space yet , as I have Several Options , and the only thing Slowing that down a little is that My Wifes Grandfather had a Quintuple Bypass surgery on the 9th (my B-Day , no less) so were a little more Focussed on that right now , forObvious Reasons .

sorry to hear about the family health probs bro. your right about the cost of things. thats outrageous, our gym is 35 a month. they teach boxing, kickboxing, karate, and mt. plus they are fully equipt with weights. i go to the guys at grappling concepts for my bjj. they train fighters for free! i would love to get a cage and open a club for mma.

I know this might be a little far from the city, but we have a nice team going up in Oneonta, NY.....near Binghamton, NY. Tom Murphy from the Ultimate Fighter 2 is one of the trainers, he comes down about once a month or so and rolls....as his hometown is in Cooperstown. But his high school buddy, Brian, is the main instructor. We do alot of BJJ and some Muay Thai sparring here and there. Tough bunch of guys, PM me for more info. Good luck, bro.
