NEVER EVER buy a Hyundai!!!

CFlan423

New member
They have the worst service department on the planet (Hyundai of NPR, near my house in particular) and their cars are just pieces of junk.

I bought my car BRAND NEW in 2010 (10' Sonata Limited Edition V6) for $29,000 plus the 'platinum' 10yr/100k bumper to bumper warranty for $2,500, and have had nothing but problems with it since i bought it. First the engine was making a weird ticking noise when it starts up, so i take it to service and they tell me "Its normal. Theres nothing we can do about it." IT MOST DEFINITELY WAS NOT NORMAL! It was loud enough where it was embarrassing to start my car with people around (Still to this day, they have not even attempted to fix it.) I made a big stink about it, talked to the director of service, got the run around, and got blown off completely. Never got it taken care of.

Next:

My leather starts PEELING on my drivers seat 10 months after i get it. Literally the dark grey was peeling off of it and showing the white underside of the paint. So they take it and have some interior guy do (what looks like) SPRAY PAINT my seats factory colors (which was HIGHLY noticeable), this worked for all of THREE days before the paint started peeling off. They told me theres nothing they can do and tried to send me on my way, after causing a big scene in the dealership they agreed to replace the leather seat cover, which they did.

So fast forward another 10 months (today) and BOTH my front seats are peeling in multiple locations (3 locations on the drivers and 4 on the passengers seat). So i take it back to Hyundai of NPR and they pretty much tell me its normal wear and tear and theres nothing they can do.... a 2 year old car, with 25,000 miles, peeling leather seats --- normal wear and tear?? This is the product i bought?? So i went into 'oh hell naw' mode and pretty much told the guy if they didnt fix it i would protest out front of their dealership on public property with signs explaining to all potential customers that their cars are JUNK. So he agrees to "try his best to get it warranted out ONE LAST TIME" by "sending an email to Hyundai to see if they will warrant it." which is essentially his escape route to blow me off and put the blame on Hyundai Motors.

If this doesn't get done, i assure you that you will see me outside of Hyundai of NPR sometime in the next two weeks (depending on how long it takes for them to call me back) holding signs explaining exactly how shitty their products are. (if anyone lives in Tarpon Springs area of Florida)

FUCK HYUNDAI. I cant wait for this fucking thing to be paid down low enough were i can trade out of it.

Side note: I could also mention the paint that surrounds the windows peeling on both sides of the car, crappy speakers (even though i got the "premium infinity sound system with nav'' that blew with the bass turned all the way down, noisy sunroof when it opens and closes (like a crunching sound that they also claim is 'normal'.)

I wish i knew how to build webpages and get them ranked high on google so i could explain to a greater number of consumers exactly how shitty their cars are.

If you spend the money on this car, you WILL be disappointed. Buy a Nissan or Toyota and save the headache!!!

sounds like you got a shitty one. my husband bought his 06 Sonata, leather seats, sunroof, etc brand new and loved it the entire time he owned it. no problems whatsoever. it was in great condition when he sold it a month ago to carmax. so, you just probably got unlucky. sucks for you.

nice life

If my car was worth the $30k i spent on it, it would be a beautiful life.

Next year when its tradable, ill certainly be going into a more reputable brand like Toyota or Nissan. If i drive this thing too long it wont be worth SHIT when i go to trade it in.

Its possible when they changed the body style in 2009 the problems started happening. They changed some stuff inside the car and on the exterior. I read reviews online and there are a ton of people who have had the same type of stuff happen for 09-10 Sonata's. I should have looked into it further before buying. I figured, "hey with a 100k bumper to bumper warranty, who cares, it will be fixed", lesson learned. They will use any excuse as a scape goat to avoid fixing obvious problems with the cars.

Count Honda as great also

Definitely. I love honda's. I would love to drive a new Accord, the only reason i even went to Hyundai was because an accord (back in 10') fully loaded like this car was like $5,000 higher and i was already extending myself to my max.

co-worker has a 2011 elantra, loves the thing, great MPG, great interior, perfect paint and interiors... I'd go with a Hyundai but I think they dont hold their value very well compared to other brands, miplank, what say you?

Its a 2011, she just got it recently. Give it a year or two and watch...

You'd be better off with a Ford or Buick

You're a fuckin dumb shit.

Why the fuck did you spend $2500 on an extended warranty on a brand new Hyundai? It comes with a 5 yr 60k mile bumper to bumper and 10/100 power train to start with.

Sorry dude, that's a shitty deal. It's beyond frustrating when you're excited for a new ride, spend some bank on it and then get shit on.

I would go to car review sites like Edmunds and dealership review sites and paste your original post everywhere. Least you'll be helping some people out and taking business away from that shitty car dealership.

lolololol

I can't take anything else he said seriously after reading that...

Every car I've owned I've handed down to my little brother when I paid it off. Which is the reason I wanted a longer bumper to bumper plan; so he would be covered for few years.

I assure you I'm not a moron when it comes to making financial decisions or educated decisions about life in general. I have a bachelors degree of pre-med with concentration of microbiology and I am currently a student at the USF Morsani College of Medicine. Ill be finished with school and my residency in 7 years and the only car keys ill be carrying will be engraved with Range Rover and Ferrari.

This is a justifiable topic to make current potential car buyers aware of the issues I'm having with the quality of this vehicle. Ignorance is not necessary, dicks.

It was still a fucking retarded 2500 purchase. Not to mention you way overpaid for it anyways.

You paid $2500 for 40,000 additional miles of coverage. You may be book smart, but you lack common sense.

$2,500 to drive a vehicle for an additional 7 years after its paid off and not worry about any repairs... how is that not practical? Repairs that can amount before 100k miles can be well over that. $2,500 for piece of mind lasting 7 years is worth every penny in itself. Shame the company (or dealership) doesn't reinforce my initial plans of ownership.

Plus, typically that coverage should only be 1000-1200 tops. Dealer cost was probably about 300-400.

The 40k additional miles of coverage is fine if you plan on keeping it that long, but you paid way too much for it.

Because your car was already covered up until 60k anyways. You only gained 40k more miles.

ONLY another 3-4 years of full warranty coverage for $2500. My car is financed for three years, spending $2500 to drive the car covered under warranty for an additional 3-4 years on top of the remaining 2 from the car itself is a no brainer. You obviously have no common sense about risk allocation, you spend a little so you don't have to spend a lot . Its about piece of mind, not "it may not break dude."

bumper to bumper doesn't mean everything

just sayin'

But you still spent $30k on a toyota/honda/nissan wannabe, and youre pissed and want to dump it soon, so the extra this or that doesnt matter.

I had no idea a hyundai could cost $30k

cept this time ... right bro?

Of course. I am taking financial criticism from people who have probably never taken a single course on finance. This conversation about the worth of the warranty is a dead end street. Lets just back up and say I didn't get the warranty and keep the main point of the thread in mind -- to make buyers aware of the quality of the car.

Be sure to finance it and get the extended warranty so you can bitch even more when you spent over $100k financed for a fuckin low rent toyota.

Well the Equus would be more along the lines of a low rent S550 based on price, size, and options, but your attempt at being a smart ass is duly noted.

I bought three today. Took every option they threw at me, and didn't put up a fuss for the 7% interest rate either.

Gotta be looking forward to the cracked leather and paint in a few months then, sweet

Im buying a 1976 mustang II with extended warranty

Honestly if they offered 10 year warranties on used cars from 1976 you'd be a moron not to take it. But Mitch should be able to tell you the likelihood of that happening ...since he's a finance director and all...

Chris, I'm not saying the warranty was a stupid purchase. I'm saying you got fucked on the price. The dealer ripped you off big time.

FYI- theyre service contracts. Warranties are free, service contracts you pay for.

Well that's all you had to say. This just reinforces my opinions about the dealer being crap. All in all I think I got a decent deal on the car out the door but I will agree that the dealer only had themselves in mind, during the sale and after the fact.

No actually at the time I got the survey I wasn't having any issues and I was happy so I gave them all top scores. Wish I could reverse that... maybe ill send an email to Hyundai motors tomorrow and see if it does anything.

Ironically no, they always tell me ill get one but I never have. I saw the owner in there today, I should have pulled him aside. The dealership does over 600 cars a month -- Hyundai of New Port Richey
