I'm 24. About 5 months ago I had a perfect thick head of hair. Then I went on a the first period of a restrictive diet to get ripped muscles. Unfortunatley, i developed a condition which caused me to bleed fairly heavily for a couple of days.

Anyways, thats when my hair loss started. Because I had a good head of hair, I passed it off as the change in the seasons or whatever. All the while I had been going to the gym everyday and training hard. I dont and have nevre used steriods.

Anyways after the bleeding stopped with a change in diet I figured I'd go on an even more restrictive diet. The hair loss continued but i paid no attention to it.

I ate nothing but chicken and salmon for a month. I was also training through it all. I managed to get into the shape I wanted but the hairloss continued, not huge amounts but always a good amount would come out when im gelling my hair or whatever.

Next month, someone pointed out a balding patch on the crown of my head and when i checked they were right. From this point onward i was maintaining a low carb diet and hair loss continued at a steady rate.

But now it has got to the point where I can see my scalp. Bear in mind this has taken place over a period of three months. (not gradually over years)

I went to the doctor and as the sides and back are unaffected he gave me the usual doctors diagnosis of Male Pattern Baldness. But due to my diets months previously didnt think so. I have moved onto a much higher carb diet now but my serum ferritin iron test came back at 60ng which is said to be a little low for hair regrowth.

So I'm really looking for a diagnosis. Do you think my hair loss is:

(a) Due to iron deficiency?
(b) Due to a lack of nutrients in the diet?
(c) A telogen effluvium (hairs all have white bulbs)
or
(d) Male Pattern Baldness (Androgenetic Alopecia)

I am deeply worried and distressed by the whole situtaion and would welcome any insightful help or comments?
