I would like to became a personal trainer (fitness and nutrition) , I've been living in USA for 4 years now, I have 2 kids one is only 2 years old, i am 25 years old and i have a degree in business.
My passion was always health related stuff, i really would like to work in this area. But right at this moment would be impossible to go to college, because my baby is too young and i don't have somebody to wacth for me.
So someone told me that there is online courses even for fitness and nutrition , from certified colleges, but i have a lot doubt about that, brcause in Brazil, it is a major course, you need to go to college for 4 years and would be out of question to do a online course (not acceptable )
And i don't know if a online course would be acceptable here.

I really would appreciate any help, i see that there is a lot people here that are instructors and a lot people here that knows a lot , so thanks

huh no replies???

i guess i will have to ask someone else :(

Sorry for barging in on the women's forum, but I hate to see you left hanging. There are many certifications that you can get from a weekend of training after spending some time studying the materials. You will get tested on practical and written materials.

It is admittedly a crash course, but combined with continued research and experience, it is a good option. That is the route I took and I've been a part-time personal trainer for years.

Also requires annual continued training. Here is a link to the one I use, but there are many.

Hope this helps. PM if you have more questions.

I am certified by ISSA. It was basically studying a large text book and taking a test. You could do it online, by mail or go to a weekend seminar. I went to the seminar.

So far, it has gotten me nowhere career-wise, but that's because there's not enough of a demand for trainers in my area. The reason I went for the certification was simply for more knowledge. I am always looking to learn new ideas and theories related to fitness and nutrition.

In America, you are almost over-qualified if you have a 4 year degree and are looking to be a personal trainer in a gym. Someone who spent $600 for a certification could make as much money as someone who spent $50,000 on a degree at the same job. The degree will serve you well if you decide to specialize in something fitness related as opposed to working in a gym.

As far as which certifications to look into, I would say go for one of the nationally recognized certifications. There are 5 or 6 of them I think... I don't remember exactly what they are, but if you do a search for them on Google it will probably tell you. Mine is http://www.fitnesseducation.com, but I wouldn't recommend it. A lot of stuff they teach I disagree with, though there are some people who love ISSA.

The way I look at it is, all knowledge is good knowledge. Get your certification regardless of what you plan to do with it. It will serve you well in the end, even if it's just changing the way you eat or exercise.

thanks ashley, I also agreed with you, i am the same way on this:

"The way I look at it is, all knowledge is good knowledge. Get your certification regardless of what you plan to do with it. It will serve you well in the end, even if it's just changing the way you eat or exercise."

THE CERTIFICATIONS YOU WANT AS A PERSONAL TRAINER OR AEROBICS INSTRUCTOR, ARE FROM AFFA OR ACE. THEY ARE WIDELY ACCEPTED. GET THE MATERIALS STUDY THE COURSE ON YOU OWN THEN TAKE THE WEEKEND CERTIFICATION. GO TO THE WEB SITES FOR MORE INFO.
