*McGrady hopes All-Star performance fuels strong second half*
-------------------------------------------------------------
LA Clippers (30-22) at Houston (22-31) 8:30 pm EST
HOUSTON (Ticker) -- Tracy McGrady hopes that his performance
in the All-Star Game turns out to be a precursor for the remainder
of the season.
McGrady tries to get the Houston Rockets' second half off to a
flying start Wednesday when they take on the Los Angeles
Clippers, who were unable to accomplish the same goal on
Tuesday.
Citing private personal problems earlier in the week, McGrady
appeared more like himself Sunday, scoring a game-high 35 points
for the Western Conference to warrant MVP consideration despite
a 122-120 defeat.
McGrady averaged 25.2 points in the first half of the season but
battled back pain - in addition to the personal issues - to
shoot just 40 percent from the field.
The Rockets appeared prime to head into the All-Star break on a
high note, having won seven of eight prior to absorbing a 109-75
pounding at the hands of Phoenix on Thursday.
McGrady scored only 10 points on 4-of-15 shooting and fellow
All-Star Yao Ming scored only six points without a rebound in 19
minutes, as Houston was run out of the building by the Suns.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles opened its second half Tuesday with a
93-91 loss to Dallas. All-Star Elton Brand scored 20 points
with eight rebounds for the Clippers, who are riding a
season-high four-game losing streak.
The Clippers have dropped 10 of their last 11 meetings with the
Rockets, including the last five matchups here.
