National Qualifier's (NPC)

That's how it is around my area. Sometimes a 'freak' like Marvin Ward shows up and takes the overall as a middle or light but it's pretty rare.

We are in the same area bro, I'm in NY.

I usually see light-heavies win the overall at NQ shows. However the heavyweight won at the last NQ show I did this spring, and then went on to win junior nationals.

I agree that the superheavyweights are often not in as good shape as the lighter weight classes, but not necessarily because they insist on being superheavyweights. Some probably just carry too much offseason BF to get ripped in time.
Many SHW also have the disadvantage of being rather tall, which makes it more difficult to present a thick, balanced package. The SHW I've been up against have had both problems. One was so out of shape he knew he was screwed and went out drinking margaritas in between prejudging and finals.

I didnt mean every Supper out there of course. But I know I had told one dude he should come down into the heavies and he would be shreaded and he insisted on staying right at 225 and said to me"if I loose anyomre wieght I wont be a Super Heavy" yeah well he wasnt a winner either.

I also had the experience with a friend who should have come down to light heavy but wanted so badly to be known as a heavy that he also wouldnt diet as hard and came in fat and got crushed, he would have been a good light heavy too. I guess its just the person but thats my expereince.

These are all good points. At the local level most competitors who are not re-qualifiying for the national level or being trained by a top competitor will be still learning and experimenting with precontest training , dieting , preperation ,etc. so they will make mistakes. Statistically if a guy is trying to make weight or is in a lighter weight class they will tend to be in better condition. Some guys who are huge take their size for granted and try not to lose too much weight and end up being beat on a smaller and better conditioned competitor.

The higher the level of competition the better conditioned the heavyweights will be. In my experiences the only heavyweights that won the overall were already near national level calibre physiqyes anyway. The rest of the time it will go to a middle weight or light HW although I twice saw a lightweight win but they were incredible looking.

I know 2 guys that have done the nationals (fact they were in flex magazine) from my area and are legends for the amounts of drugs they had to take. One was a lightweight...stacked as shit took 3rd and the other was a light heavy took 4 place. Being as tall as you are you have to be on a ton...lemme repeat this a ton of shit to go anywhere...they stopped competing at that level because of the abuse on their bodies and amount of money it takes to be an athlete of that caliber. Not putting you down or anything but get ready to take it to the next level in every sense bro. BTW light heavy's take it all around here...
