My toothpick neck

Shrugs, rows, rear delt flys :Chef: :tuc:

lay on your bed and with your should at the edge. leaving your head with nothing to rest on. keep tension on your neck to keep your head level.now do 1/2 turns like looking to one side then back straight. do that over and over about ten times. then go to the other side. after those two sides are done do back and forth. still laying down let your head go back ,keeping tension on it, now bring it up like you're doing a neck crunch. this is just isolating the neck if for neck and trap area, definatly heavy shrugs.

Sounds more like a recipe for straining the neck and winding up on the chiropractor's table. No offense.

well you might want to inform the two pro boxers that showed me that exercise what you just told me. go to the gym and do shrugs. wait a coulpe of days then do those then tell me they don't work.

when it comes to the neck...i strongly believe you should just let it happen naturally. it's not something i'd work on it's own. as chefbone said...shrugs, rows etc. most all excersizes put some sort of strain on the neck that'll help it grow. some guys are just gonna get bigger than others just like any other body part.

I've had a neck injury in the past and would honestly say...it's not a part of the body to fuck with. whatever you do...either way...very important...ALWAYS STRETCH YOUR NECK! keep that fucker in check at all times.

Man, I hate that gyms don't have neck machines anymore. In highschool, I'd sit in it for like half an hour, by the end of first semester, I had to cut the necks out of all my shirts.

As for the lying on the side of the bed and moving your head around, if this worked, Jenna Jameson would have a neck as thick as Tyson's!

edit: chances are, I'd get the machine after some housewife with all her make up on gives it a shot and get covered in crap. I have gyms in the OC!

i swear when i squat my neck blows up........

I agree. I also get this feeling from deads and cleans...

they do sell contraptions that you strap to your head and hang weights from. i would use that though. thing like that will cause sleep aptnia (spelling??) when you are older. this is when you stop breathing when you sleep.

shrug like two to three 3 times a week, this is what made my neck grow after many frustrating years. Deadlifts will also help.

i talked to the owner of my gym about it and he just said to lay on the flat bench a little past the end and put a weight on your forehead. All i know is a have big traps, i do deads and cleans and squats and i still don't have a larger than normal neck.

Whats their #? :p

JK bro.

... stick with the trap exersices and you will do fine.. I had a long skinny neck..
and my traps responded very well to just regular shoulder works.. your traps go up the back of your neck.. so any pulling exercise will do you good...

What are the best exercises to get my neck bigger? Will it grow? How often and how hard should you train it?

I work my neck on my "push" day after delts/traps. (Twice/week)

I perform 3 X 12 neck raises in each of the 4 directions while laying on a bench, head off the edge.

On the final three sets when I am lifting my head up while prone, I place a 50 pound plate on my forehead, using the fingertips to keep it from sliding off.

All reps are done slow and steady. At 205 lbs, my neck was 18". The more I weigh, the larger it grows.

U are taking a big chance there ... YOu may never have problems ? maybe.
but .... one little problem will be a big problem. and can fuck you for life...

one little pinch or stain all the signals from your brain go down your neck..

usless you play football or use your neck for a living.. the traps will give you the look of a big neck... Maybe you are going for no neck.. but it is risky.....

i wish i could find that video of that dumbass that messed up his neck.. and is not preaching against steroid use..

Powerhouse I hear you. I have been doing wrestler's bridges and the 45lb. plate on my forehead for many, many, many years (probably nearly 20 years), and I still have a pencil neck, even though my traps grow well.

I have never been fearful of straining or pinching a nerve with these exercises (head off the edge of the bench or wrestler's bridge), but I must be a dumb ass because I keep doing them and nothing has ever happened.

One interesting comment, possibly I was doing too few reps? Someone mentioned high reps as the trick, and I usually did 6-8 reps with the plate on the forehead (3-4 sets) , and then my wife would assist with tension to the sides and rotation (never head a neck machine in my gyms). I keep hearing deadlifts and cleans........I don't know bro, could just be genetics and a hard to grow bodypart for both us. Good thread........

Thanks for the concern.

I'm 62 and have been doing this for decades. Zero problems with any pain. Zero damage.

See all those "turkey gobler" loose skin necks out there on older men?
I'm not one of them.

I believe neck, arms and calves should be same in size for classical shape and balanced presentation.

i thread a gym towel through a 10 lb. plate, get in the bent over row position and do neck curls like that. you can also use the hamstring curl machine facing head where the feet go and do those, but i ALWAYS stick with light weight and high reps, and i have a decently proportioned neck for a small guy. also i dont, wouldnt pull it back hard and/or with a full range of motion backward, i go from down/forward to head in neutral position, slowlymy brother in law has done these for a llong time and has got a very thick neck, was VERY skinny before, he weighs 190 and never uses over 20 on the machine, not sure about the plates,,,
i havent done them in a while, time to get back on it

AAS.
My neck size has gone from 15" to 16" just by 2 cycles, without any neck exercise.

Hey can ya post a pic?

The neck will generally come along with the rest of your body, just like your forearms.

I have had enough pinch nerves in my neck and traps to fuck around with doing specific neck work. There is a reason why there are no more neck machines in gyms - too many people got hurt using them! 20 years ago I remember seeing plenty of those 4 way machines thing that you pushed your head against...people should have spent more time squating that using that shit.

Props to the lion. 62 and still going strong is awesome.

Bro, this does indeed work, I cannot believe how much it has helped in just 6 weeks.

I have been doing neck exercises for nearly 20 years (wrestler's bridges and 45lb. plates on my neck each dircetion), and nothing, my neck never got any bigger, stayed about 14.5" for years and years.

Since I started doing these simple isolation 3 sets - 2 x week, my neck has really gotten bigger. It sounds simple but after about 10-12 reps done strict, my neck is pumping. Many folks have commented how much bigger my neck has gotten. Down side is though I genuinely cannot wear my old dress shirts with a tie, even with the neck expander gadget. I'll take that as a negative though, this has really helped me, thanks bro!
