Just got this machine home from Phoenix last night... For those who missed the original thread when I saw it on eBay and had to have it, here's the story: I'm a Diesel nut, and I collect cars & trucks from the 80s with Diesel engines, which are RARE in passenger cars and mini-trucks in the USA. This is a 1984 Buick with the VERY VERY rare option 4.3 Diesel V6. It's all there basically, and wants to run, but it's full of bad fuel from 1997. Probably also plants growing in the radiator, etc.

Today, I'll figure out how to get it off the trailer with 4 flat tires, and will put it back in shape over the winter. Maybe my 82 Cadillac V8 Diesel will mate with it, and we'll get a little baby Diesel Chevette! (at least that's the excuse I'll make, when I find a Diesel Chevette.

About a nanotesla of appeal for me. But you could probably harvest some of those radiator plants for a few miles of go. :D

fix it up with the 8 cylinder caddy diesel and maybe rw would hit it.
re-upholster the back seat and i bet racheal...lol would fly down.
keep it as is but put fuzzy dice, a tree air freshner, and lotsa
10,000 maniacs and Yanni cassettes and bluebird will be your date

It runs! No bad engine noises, and no foamy radiator water, and no metal filings out the exhaust pipe...

I had to bleed all the air and bad fuel out of the injectors and lines, and had to manually cycle the glow plugs (no power to main body feed; will troubleshoot later)... With a clatter that sounded like lightning hitting a tree, and a huge plume of black and gray smoke from the tailpipe rising above Ventura County, the Buick came to life! I ran it for about 5 minutes, but the heater core is shot, so the coolant started pouring into the carpet and steaming from the defroster vents. I'll have to bypass the heater, and will try again and verify whether or not the head gaskets are still intact, or if I need to do a top-end job on it before I go further.

The interior is so cooked from the Arizona sun, that I will probably be best off to buy another car to get all the interior from it. I did that with my '82 Cadillac, and it was a great idea. I can probably get a Buick like this one but with a gas motor, which flunked smog inspection, for under $500 in mint condition.

While I was out there messing with it, our neighbor (trying to sell his house), looked at the Buick with steam and Diesel smoke, and then panned across to my big yellow 1200-lb air raid siren, and just politely shook his head.
