We tried the state's mental hygiene commitment procedure. Basically you can swear out a warrant on someone and they will take him to the state mental hospital for an examination to determine if he should be hospitalized. Unfortunately something went wrong and they couldn't find him before the warrant expired.

I think Japan has a good model for handling gun control. Their murder rate is something like 5% compared to the USA. I've always said that I would give up my gun if everyone else gave up theirs. However that will never happen here in the USA.

I'd be willing to bet that a majority of the guns that kill people are illegally owned, so getting rid of legally owned firearms would do very little to curb the murder rate.

Sure they are illegally owned because all guns are pretty much entirely illegal. The point is that guns are not prolific. I think the majority of murders in the USA are impulsive actions. I don't think too many murderers in the USA actually plan their killings in advance.

However, as I'm in the USA and every crazy or violent person has a gun then I want to have one too for protection. I just think it's pathetic that someone as crazy as my uncle can build an arsenal of firearms and the law fails to stop him.
