Homemade protein bars

Probably been posted before, but here it is anyway.

Cheap, homemade, great tasting protein bars (good for bulking)

-Take a cup of honey and microwave it for a minute (loosens it)

-Mix it with a cup of natrual peanut butter

-Mix in three cups of oatmeal

-Add about 150-200 grams of chocolate protein powder (could use any, but choccie tastes nice)

-Mix all this lot together in a bowl

-spread out on a baking tray

-put in the fridge for an hour

-cut into 'bars'

This tastes great, better than most chocolate bars and brownies I have ever had.

Tips; It will look like it doesn't want to mix, but it will if you persist. If it really wont then add a little milk or some more honey.

Feel free to add raisins, seeds, or any other dried fruit.

These are great to have in a desk drawer or car glove compartment for when you need a calorie injection.

Hope you enjoy:)

I tried these 2 weeks ago and they didn't harden. Perhaps I didnt use enough honey..what is the main ingredient that keeps it all together?

Oats and peanut butter should keep em together, you should only use the same amount of honey as peanut butter, which is a third of the amount of oats. They will never be solid, but more the consistency of nougat, but certainly solid enough to carry around and eat like a bar.

My guess would be the peanut butter. Fats solidify the further below room temperature they are. Leave them in the fridge longer, or better yet, freeze them. (You can spend longer eating them if you gnaw away slowly at a frozen bar anyway - try it!)

I added a little bit of milk to the mix--- because it was too dry without.

Yea man, I have done that before, or alternatively you can use a bit more honey, but make sure you microwave it because it makes it a lot runnier.
