Muscular Dystrophy and AAS?

Anyone know if AAS/GH can help people with MD? I have a close friend (female) who has MD, and I've been curious about assistance with the disease using AAS and/or GH. Anyone know if this is a method of dealing with the disease?

Thanks It3 :). I've been curious ever since I found out - seems that it is a "muscle wasting" disease...and I'm thinking AAS/GH may be options for slowing the diseases progress.

I am in the Medical field, and once had a patient with ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease.... He had severe muscle wasting.... He saw that I was obviously into working out, and asked me about steroids.... I told him I don't do them, and wanted no part of that conversation at 1st.... However, the guy was only 42yrs old, and I got pretty close to him... I then told him that I don't do steroids, but I was able to get them if he REALLY wanted them.... I then suggested that he talk to his doctor 1st though. He told me he did that, and his doctor said that anabolic steroids are not approved for his disease. I thought that was such fucking bullshit. How are steroids not gonna help a muscle wasting disease? Well, he changed his mind, and i never got the stuff for him. I think that was a good thing looking back, as I would seriously be risking my job.

I would assume that MS is in the same boat as ALS, steroids aren't approved for it. Only thing I can say, is that I do remember reading a study where Anavar was used to help some muscular/neurological wasting disease... I don't remember the exact disease, but the study did show that Anavar did help the loss of muscle... DUH>>> Sorry I can't be more specific on the topic, it was a very long time ago I read this... Maybe you can do a search and find the study.... This isnt saying you can't experiment on your own if you feel so inclined.... MS isn't as deadly as ALS is, so there are 2 trains of thought there... On one hand, you might not wanna take drugs that aren't approved by the FDA for that specific disease. On the 2nd hand, with a disease that isn't as deadly, there is more room for a quality of life if the steroids work. I'm not a doctor, so I hate giving medical advice...

On a side note. Anadrol is in the PDR (Physican's Desk Reference), and can be prescribed by a doctor. Under indications, it says it increases red blood cells, nothing about increasing muscle mass. I don't get why the medical community shy's away from steroids, even with muscle wasting diseases, when it's pretty obvious they would help. I've seen doc's prescribe some harmful drugs in the ICU setting, as a last ditch effort to save someone's life. Alot more harmful then AAS.... I just don't understand the closed minded thinking.... /rant off....

Without reading up I am going to guess that since all AS does is increase protein synthesis that it would have no benefit to a dystrophic muscle. This is where you begin to understand how little we know about muscle and how it works. I read "experts" in the fitness community go on and on about muscle growth as though they have it all figured out. They only know a small portion of the complexity of human muscle. If they knew as much as they profess to know they'd have cured MD. But they aren't even close after spending 50 years and billions of dollars on a cure. Thank God gene therapy will cure all diseases in our lifetime and chemicals/drugs will just be a bad memory.

hey prizz, (as an RN myself),, you had stated you are in the medical field, you also stated that you had offered to get a patient steroids if he really wanted them..you have made a critical mistake and can possibly put a patients life in jeopardy, and your own career as well. Are you a licensed medical professional?

ok - if AAS won't help a dystrophic muscle (just increases protine uptake) what about GH? Doesn't GH help grow "new" muscle?

Yeah Lanky, I'm a licensed professional...... If youre looking to get into a whole morality debate with me, save it plz.... I know it's not right, and in the end I didn't do it.... Don't tell me you are Mr Moral or something.... This wasn't a normal Hospital patient, it took place in a Nursing home, and i knew this guy for over 4yrs.... He had 4 kids that came in to see him quite often, and it broke my heart to watch this guy waste away and die in front of my face.... The dude begged me to get him the juice, he would tell me that I was the only person that could help him... So, it wore on me, and I broke down, and offered to get him the stuff.... Was it wrong? Yes.... Did I go through with it? No.... Say what you want about me, I did what I did...

good post,, i understand and have been in your situation many times, heart breaking most assured connsidering the amount of time he was under your care. In progressive diseases like this that effect mobility, quality of life becomes nonmedically speaking "crap". some cope beter than others. because you work in a nursing home/long term care facility the two main problems are pain and mobility issues. . I to believe there should be the use of anabolics more frequently in long term care. It takes a special type of person to work in long term care..i did it for a short(few months) peroid but became very frustrated with the whole immobility/constant pain issues. again great post prizz

Well thanks for the kind words Lanky.... I actually don't work in a long term facility anymore, I work in a hospital.... The hospital I work in used to contract with some long term facilities, so I would work in different ones here and there.... I'm kinda glad that is over, as I like the hussle and bussle of the hospital setting..... Again, I'm glad you see my side of the situation...

Hey..i know this is an old post..BUT i have MD type Lgmd2i and currently I am in a trial we expect to take about 2 years...first 12 weeks have shown promising results using AAS Test and OX and a couple others...at the age of 56 i have nothing to loose and everything to gain by this trial..I think the mainstream medical field is definitely missing it here! The first Cycle has shown enough promise..im really excited for round 2..ive had the best summer i have had in years! My strength has increased as has my energy..my appetite and my mobility have improved.I was going down hill...and have actually regained somee ground here!...while it may not be a "Genetic Cure" i do feel at this point it will be a valid treatment that will put this disease in the background enough to where i can live with a decent quality of life with the years i have left.....Im onboard to fight this crappy disease...with all i have in me! I will NEVER give up!
