MS - Tribulus and Fertility

MS, first, thank you for taking the time to answer all of my "call outs" I do for you. I am in awe of your knowledge and experience....I hope it does not bother you. :)

Anyway, I was on "another site" where you mention Tribulus can be used to increase fertility in women (by increasing estrogen). Does this mean if a woman is trying to conceive OR is having trouble conceiving then Tribulus can help increase her chances? If so.....

What would the dosages be?
How long would she take it?
Also.....and possible sides (to fetus)? I know AAS can cause fetus problems - the same wouldn't go for Tribulus (or would it)?

Thanks, in advance. :)

I don't know Daisy. Tribulus has been used as a folk remedy for fertility problems in women, and it does seem to possibly increase lutenizing hormone and estradiol, but there is no real evidence that I can get my hands on indicating that tribulus has ever been clinically tested for this use. As such, there is also no data on possible negative effects on the fetus of a woman taking tribulus. There is even a suggestion that tribulus may, in part, increase libido by increasing either the conversion of testosterone to DHT, or increasing the sensitivity to DHT, or inhibiting the clearance of DHT. If this proves to be true, then this may have repercussions for the fetus. But really, there is a total lack of unbiased, peer reviewed research with this herb, and the endocrine changes which have been measured in women taking large doses of tribulus are mild to say the least.

You might want to ask Wilson6 this question. He prolly has better access to some of the more obscure pieces of research floating around, or maybe even more real world experience.

Thanks - I just had never heard this before....was curious. :) I don't think it would be worth the possible sides (in the woman), but the concept was interesting. I appreciate the time.
