Mr X or anyone, what do you think of taking ALA on noncarb up days while on a CKD?

Alpha lipoic is one of the best supplements i use.

I love it.

I got 100 grams at beyond-a-century.com for 38 bucks. WHICH IS A FUCKING UNBELIEVABLE DEAL.

So i got a grip of this stuff.

Should i use it Everyday while on the CKD? oR should i take it strictly on carb up days?

Merci very much.

Lyle Mcdonald has reported in the past of people getting pretty severe hypoglycemic reactions from taking ALA on zero carbs.

Hoffmeister is correct, you should not take it during your 0carb(Ketonic) day, but only on the carb-up days. I have experienced a hypo. reaction one time from ALA, but it was at very high doses.

Mr.X what's hypo reaction?

Hypoglycemic...meaning you can go into a hypoglycemic comma where you blood sugar is too low...similarly, the reason ppl. die from insulin use: hypoglycemic commas. You might be able to get off easy w/ brain damage after one of those commas, but again I'd recommend caution not to even hit that physical state.

??? for Mr.X

Mr.X it's very good to see you back online after all this time. Welcome back. I have a question for you. Does any glucometer measure ketones in blood or is there a specific one I should get. Ketostix I tried and I found'em usefull but sometimes if I drink alot of water and go pee every 20 mins or so my reading is either low or negative eventhough I know what it feels like to be in ketosis and I am in it. So I was looking for a more accurate ketones reading and saw you posted that glucometer can be used to check for ketones in blood. So i was just wondering if just any glucometer will do the job. Thanx

Arite Xman i gotta nother Q for u...

What if you are on a modified version of tha CKD , where on workout days you drink a Post workout shake...

Like this....

Days 1 - 4 (Workout days)

MEALS 1 - 6 FAT: 25-45 Protein : 15 - 25 Carbs: 0 - 3
MEAL 7 ( POST WORKOUT SHAKE) fat: 0 carbs: 50 pro: 25
(keep in mind that the post workout shake will be the very last meal of the day)

Days 5 - 7 (non-workout days)

Meals 1 - 7 FAT: 25-45 Protein : 15 - 25 Carbs: 0 - 3

Day 8: CARB UP DAY
(2 WORKout sessions) ALL MEALS HIGH CARBS, LOW FAT, MOD PROTEIN.

Okay,,here's tha Q,,, will it be okay to take ALA on WORKOUT days if you were following a program like this?? Let's say 750mg - 1000mg...?

Thanks

crumb have you though about TKD. That be the way to go in you want the post carbup (some people TKD have carbs post workout, mr.x doesn't reccomend it since its harder to get back in ketosis though)

You still occassionally carb up on TKD, to keep the metabolism in check ect.. though not as often.
