More muscle doesnt burn more calories?

Lee

New member
I was watching dateline tonight and they had some excersize, weight loss guru chic on, and she said that having more muscle wont burn more calories, but i thought it did, does anyone know the answer to this?

what??

Umm the standard truth that I've grown accustomed to is that every pound of muscle burns an additional 35 calories per day, actually....

And that's just while resting.

People with a lot of muscle are going to throw a lot more weight around which equals a lot more calories being burned off in a workout.

I'd be interested to know if anyone has information contrary to this.

If you see a "fitness professional" type on a mainstream news show, you should know not to listen to their drivel.

She's wrong.

no, it's true.....in fact a 250lb bodybuilder burns exactly the same amount of calories as an 8 lb infant....it's common knowledge.

who has to eat more daily, an elephant or mouse ?

bigger needs more

listen to baoh, fuck mainstream thought

This is so intutive/obvious that it dosent even deserve an reply.

I consider myself to be a fitness professional due to my job, heres my take. Muscle mass raises yout resting metabolic rate(RMR) and thats a fact! This means that your muscles need ,more calories to exist then does say fat. So even when just sitting around doing nothing you are using mor calories then an untrained person is.

So hypothetical person weighs 180lbs, and over time puts on 50lbs of lean mass (ie a lot). Is that “guru” saying that at 230lbs they will have the same maintenance calorie requirements as at 180lbs?

That is unbelievable coming from someone who is willing to go on TV as a “professional”!

I'd say that this "fitness professional" needs to put a pistol in their mouth and let it rain. What an idiot! Muscle is more metabolically active than fat, period. People like this influence the uninformed and then they argue with you about stupid shit because they saw it on TV. Unbelievable.
