Mixed Grip and Deadlift Form

Hey guys. So, I have pretty solid form when I deadlift using double overhand. However, when I switch over to mixed grip later in my working set, or with heavier weights which require better grip, my form immediately gets pretty bad. Has anyone else ever experienced this? I don't want to use straps, but I don't want my grip strength to keep me from pulling bigger weights. I'm thinking of trying out the hook grip next time. Just wondering if anyone else has ever had this problem.

I have much better strength with an over under grip also makes it easier keep weight close to your hips rather than pulling you forward. I basically only use an over under grip. Probably just need to do it more often.

Hmm. I've been doing under left, over right. I'll also try switching hands -- over left, under right. The thought of that feels weird though, haha.

what the heck?! does it matter which hand is over and which hand is under?! i usually alternate my over/under grip

do you notice a difference in grip strength between your left and right hands?

i alternate my over/under because i fear that i might develop my grip asymmetrically

Yes it does matter. One way is going to feel more natural and be stronger. I pull conventional right under, left over because that's comfortable for me and strong. When I pull sumo I go left under, right over. I've tried switching them around on both pulls and it doesn't work for me. To the op, the reason you have bad technique when you go to a over under grip is because your technique needs work. The grip has nothing to do with it. The heavier weights are exposing the weaknesses in your technique. Everyone can lift light weights with good form. Find a comfortable grip and focus on using good form. Tape yourself doing dl and have someone experienced pick apart your technique. You could be making 10 different mistakes and not know it. I've pulled over 700lbs and I even make mistakes once In a while. From experience I usually know immediately what I did wrong, but sometimes I have to have someone look at it to get a different perspective.
