Mirror = Evil

Mirro = Evil

Interesting - today I faced away from the mirror with the stuff at the end of my powercleans, and I felt "lost" on the first clean, like where is the bar! :)

By the 2nd rep, it felt way better, you can really sense where the bar is, and sorta look down using your peripheral vision to find the bar and you can rack way easier. It seems when using the miror, you are always half a second late

Basicly mirror = EVIL! It warps your perception

From now on, no mirrors for oly lifts. Should improve my form and feel a lot! PRs too :)

I would tend to agree. I’m sure you get a better contraction if you “feel” the muscle rather than watch it in the mirror.

Of course, the mirror helps if you are still getting the form down, and as endpoint said, can be motivational to see those muscles working...

i like using mirrors on shit like preacher curl, shrugs, barbell curl, just to check to my form and to make sure im going up evenly on each rep.

CoolC, Vassily never belived in mirrors. I had a mirror when I first started but someone let a green bumper bounce and it broke one of the mirrors so our coach removed all of them. I got a shitload faster in my drops and more coordinated when I was racking, mainly in my opinion because I was feeling the weight instead of watching it

I guarantee if you trained in a gym without mirrors that your form would not suffer. It takes some getting used too though, especially squatting.

Too many lifters spend WAY too much time staring at themselves at the gym - get over yourself! These same guys wear tank tops to the Arnold Classic. PuhlEAse!

(Not flaming you Lee, just venting on a pet peeve...:) )

I've worked out in gyms that didn't have mirrors... both in the US and in Europe. In a lot of places having mirrors would be considered "wierd." It would actually make people feel uncomfortable.

I wholey agree with you. My form never suffered for lack of mirrors... in fact - I think hving no mirrors helps me focus.

The very first day I ever went into the gym with someone who knew what he was doing - he told me, "The mirror is your enemy." He talked about how bodybuilders micro analyzed themselves constantly... to the point they lost perspective.

This got me to ignore mirrors early on. I still ignore them. I'm in a gym now that is wall to wall mirrors... and I never see them.

The only mirror should be by the water fountain, that way I wouldn't have to look sideways so hard to check out the physique on the way there...

I can train either way; and have.

Mirrors do help in checking your own form, no mistake about that. Consider them a tool and like any other tool, used only when needed and not obsessively.

But I dig feeling the movment; just knowing that I'm pickin' up this heavy weight and performing the exercise with good form. Very in-tuned, very snazzy.
