Millions can't find family doctor (Ah, The Joys of socialized medicine)

p0ink said:
really? i dont know about your socialist paradises, but i don't have to wait weeks/months to get seen. even it isnt an emergency, i can call up my doctor and have an appointment either that day or the next.

i dont have to wait around like you poor schmoes do.

i remember a poster here from the UK had to wait 6 months to get his broken nose fixed.

oh yeah, and where do the majority of medical innovations come from? that's right, the US.

Where'd you get the idea everyone has to wait weeks and months in Canada? that is not true at all, i have talked to Canadians and they can get doctors on the same day, just like us.

http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cach...nada.pdf+number+of+physicians+in+canada&hl=en

In 1993 Canada had 2.21 physicians per 1000 individuals. The US has 2.02 in 2002. How the hell do Canadians end up waiting weeks/months every time while people in the US get instant treatment if the ratio of physicians is basically the same in both countries?

The number in canada is now down to 1.86 per 1000

but the ratios are still basically the same.

Thats because we have 7x as many people as Canada.

well, shit. then i guess india and china should be ruling everything if innovation and technology is simply based on the number of people living in a country.

we, as americans, must submit our dominance to china and india right now, since they have more people than we do.

China and india are piss poor countries which are only starting to have cars and a life free of starvation, Canada is more or less equal to the US in regards to wealth and technology. Poor argument.

It's not one or the other Poink. there are private business hospitals and clinics in countries with socialised healthcare. So if you want to spend the money and can't wait for something you can do that too.

Our country is screwed in many ways. While I had the luxury of being treated fast, I saw some nasty stuff there. People having enemas right in the hall in front of everyone cause they lacked rooms. No they didn't it's just that those who know people get the rooms, the others wait outside and serve as a public clown.

Some folks where I live have waited for months to get a serious exam with a cardiologist. I had one less than an hour after I was rushed at the hospital. I had a certain Dr. Hadjis from the Jew hospital, not everyone as this opportunity. But then you end up with a 11k$ bill. We just throw too much of our income taxes in this crappy system compared with what we get in return.

articles, reports, first hand accounts, posts from canadians on EF...

I have heard the opposite from posters on straight dope. Again, how do you explain this when canada has just as many physicians per 1000 people as the US?

wow, 1.2 million who had trouble finding a regular doctor compared to our 41 million uninsured and 50 million underinsured people. Those poor communist bastards.

Comparing 1.2 million people who don't have a regular doctor and 91 million who don't have a doctor period is a very, very, very bad argument against socialized medicine.

Sorry Poink but Nordi's right.

I have insurance (THANK GOD!) - which is just shy of $500 a month for just myself and I have a hard time finding a doctor. Cut out the ones not covered by the carrier, the ones that don't accept new patients, the ones that are 2-3 hours away leaves me with the local yahoo's that I fear will one day kill me because they lack the motivation to be knowledgeable of lethal prescription drug interactions. (Don't get me started on the local pharmacists.)

:coffee:

Holland is currently dealing with too long waiting times in specialised healthcare, you can see your family doctor pretty much anytime I think, if you need a specialised checkup it can be a while.

This is however considered a crisis caused by cutting down on the system and its considered a problem and not normal.

The real problem with stats:

- we have many physicians but few specialists and that's where the whole mess starts...
