Re: Michael Moore takes time off from his book tour to attend anti-capitalism rally??

Capitalism is bad? He took time out from selling his book to say that buying his book is bad?

Re: Michael Moore takes time off from his book tour to attend anti-capitalism rally??

Michael Moore has to pay moar!

Re: Michael Moore takes time off from his book tour to attend anti-capitalism rally??

yep, he needs to sell this book before barry takes 72% of it through capital gains..

Re: Michael Moore takes time off from his book tour to attend anti-capitalism rally??

with the body that he has, obviously he's well to do..

Re: Michael Moore takes time off from his book tour to attend anti-capitalism rally??

Pretty much, yes.

Re: Michael Moore takes time off from his book tour to attend anti-capitalism rally??

pretty sure the wall street rally's are against corruption. So if ur equating corruption with capitalism that's on you, not the people protesting. Financial corruption in this country is not even debateable anymore and we all know where it originates from. That's what those people are protesting. But nice try again from EF's platinum card asshole for trying to recharacterize things in a way that fits his narrative.

Re: Michael Moore takes time off from his book tour to attend anti-capitalism rally??

I don't know about you, but I think that's the greatest troll ever!

I bet he's so disgusted with banks that he now keeps his entire $40M-$50M in net worth stored in his matress.

Re: Michael Moore takes time off from his book tour to attend anti-capitalism rally??

what i like about him.. is with that much extra weight, he'll be dead soon..

The irony that he expects taxpayer-funded free health care yet can't seem to put down the burrito isn't lost on me.

almost everyone in this country is guilty of financial corruption...everyone that buys a car/home/cell phone & plan, etc. that they know damn well they don't deserve and can't afford (or can't afford without giving up basics...like health insurance, food and clothes for their kids, etc.)...everyone that runs up a huge credit card bill that they know they have no hope of ever paying off...all of those people (and there are a SUBSTANTIAL number) are guilty of financial corruption...with freedom comes a certain amount of responsibility...and most people just aren't able to handle that responsibility anymore...everytime you point a finger at someone else, there are three fingers pointing back at you.

I might normally agree with you except that all those financial tools you just listed are provided freely by the people who expect that sort of behavior because in our system money is created from debt. You know that digi. So default is not only encrouraged it's pretty much written into the system. Without debt we couldn't create more money...at least in our twisted little bizarro world.

Re: Michael Moore takes time off from his book tour to attend anti-capitalism rally??

but that printing press ride is coming to an end cause the world is discussing getting off the U.S dollar as the reserve. When that happens it's over cause we don't make shit anymore. They can tool that "service economy" up their buttholes then.

So I guess we better get more friendly to manufacturers in a hurry, correct?

How would you propose doing that?

i've never defaulted on anything...ever...and, i can count on one hand the number of times in my life that i've had a late payment (and they were complete accidents...hell, the last one was on a loan that was automatically withdrawn from my account from the very first payment...how you can have a late payment on an auto-debit loan, i'll never know)...yes...i believe that you're expected to conduct yourself responsibly...irresponsible behavior/financial corruption from the top down has led to the world's current economic shitstorm...just because there is enough rope out there to hang yourself, doesn't mean you should find the nearest roof truss to throw it over.

closing all tax loopholes while simultaneously lowering the tax rate. We've been over this.

Re: Michael Moore takes time off from his book tour to attend anti-capitalism rally??

And how does that address our ridiculous tort system and out-of-control regulatory system?

It doesn't cause they're not problems. Theyr'e only problems for people that are fucking off, probably like yourself. For real people that want to make real products the right way, these aren't problems. These are just right wing conservative talking points being put out by a right wing conservative bobble head.

ew! ew! mr. kotter! mr. kotter!...we already addressed that by building our factories in china instead of here??

closing all tax loopholes while simultaneously lowering the tax rate. We've been over this.

99.9% of all tax loopholes (if you want to call them that) were intended (by our lawmakers) to encourage people to save money, undertake research and development, support charities and other non-profits (e.g., educational institutions), buy homes, expand manufacturing, create jobs, etc...thus, relieving the government of a substantial amount of responsibility.

yup well it's time to close em. You lower the tax rate they don't need those breaks. By "strictly", and i mean anal pound me in the ass penitentiary strict, enforcing tax's we have a stable revenue base which doens't fluctuate cause some faggots figured out a way to cheat.

not really...it just means tax evaders go to federal pound me in the ass penitentiary. I honestly think fed time should be called that so people have no misconeptions about what's going to happen. You tax evade even though the country has dropped the rate through the floor....time to get fucked.

not to be argumentative butt (tee hee), a lot of the people that take advantage of these legislative graces (that's what we like to call them...loophole just sounds so...pedestrian) are avoiders, rather than evaders, and avoidance is legal and, in the instance of many of the special/preferential/whatever-the-fuck-you-want-to-call-them tax laws, actually encouraged...also, many of the laws are written to be purposefully broad in scope, so that they benefit as many people as possible...the lawmakers expect that people will work hard to fit themselves into these "boxes", if you will, so that they can avail themselves of these tax advantages...i'm not saying that the current system isn't fucked up...it is...but, the truth of the matter is that true conspiracy and abuse and criminal behavior isn't nearly as widespread as the media would like you to believe...at least not as far as the tax laws are concerned.

Exactly.

Closing loopholes won't have nearly the impact everyone believes. Any multinational company can easily engage in the legal act of tax avoidance. But loopholes will be in the media all the way through the 2012 election, because it's a great wedge issue and

I'm actually all for wiping-out corporate welfare loopholes (i.e. credits to oil and gas -- as well as ethanol). But here's what I find ridiculous: Giving money to so-called "green" companies is just as much (or more) welfare than giving them tax credits. It's incredibly hypocritical to me that Barry is bitching about loopholes to corporations the very same week he shoved another $5B out in green energy loans (especially in the wake of Solyndra).

So Barry, stop your own green energy corporate welfare boondoggles before bitching about tax credits given to proven industries like oil and gas. It should all go -- not just the ones that will win votes with your base.

He's only online for a relatively narrow window throughout the day.

I'm guessing it's from an internet cafe before or after he attends his cyberuniversity class.

Re: Michael Moore takes time off from his book tour to attend anti-capitalism rally??

Fine, avoidance is legal...make it illegal. If we're gonna drop the corporate tax rate, which we absolutely should it's disgraceful....then we have to shut down all "avoiders", lol. We need a stable tax base so that nobody can point a finger anywhere else and say those people aren't paying their share. Because what that allows is politicians to play one people against the other....unfortunately people aren't smart enough to see that going on. And it's a beautiful scheme, they've got us twisted up good on that one. Once we start handing the govt a steady check that doesn't fluctuate maybe they'll have to start doing things like not buying $300 toilet seats.

LOL @ making avoidance illegal.

Some poor guy sells a few stocks at the end of the year to offset some capital gains... and gets sent to prison.

Better yet, off with his head!

Re: Michael Moore takes time off from his book tour to attend anti-capitalism rally??

Michael Moore needs to be put in a straight jacket, gagged, and sedated for the rest of his natural life.

actually, some of the stuff that's out there is kind of bullshit (imho)...for example:

the child tax credit...it's only available up to a certain income level...and there's additional credits for those at lower income levels...we're encouraging people that can't afford to have kids, to go ahead and have'em anyway?

the dependent care credit...we're encouraging both parents to work fulltime and leave the child rearing to an unrealted 3rd party?

the education credit...instead of forcing these fucking opulent dens of higher learning to figure out on their own how to come to terms with the fact that their price outweighs the benefit in nearly every profession, we're going to subsidize them, so they can build more taj mahal-like structures around their campuses?

hell, i regularly see people whose household income is $80,000+ (well above anyone's measurement of the poverty line) and they have a couple of kids and are able to avail themselves of the myriad of credits available and, not only do they not pay any federal tax, they actually get a refund of money that they never paid in...that's called welfare...and we already have one of those.

I completely agree. Those are loopholes we should close. I'd close the mortgage deduction too.

I've also heard people on Jerry before talking about how they "sell their kids" for tax purposes. I'm not sure how they do it, but I believe people who pay taxes will pay parents who do not pay taxes so they can deduct the child as a dependent for tax purposes.

in my mind, a "loophole" is an unintended tax advantage created by poorly written legislation or by sneaky fucking attorneys and tax analysts or by bad law created in the federal courts...those tax advantages i referred to were ABSolutely intentional and they should go away, along with capital gain treatment for so-called qualified dividends and a whole bunch of other shit.
