Melanoma

Ladies, I don't mean to sound like a nag on this subject but cosidering how much time many of us spend tanning it is REALLY important. I told you about the whole ear thing and that I had another spot on my shoulder. They did the excision on my shoulder today and I have a 3" incision. He gave me more pain meds and I take that to mean it is really going to hurt when the deadening wears off and my stomach is still giving me problems from the last ones. I came very close to just blowing these spots off as a couple of dark moles. Melanoma if left untreated can spread to other organd and eventually it can kill you. Please, if you have ANYTHING even the least bit questionable go have it checked out.
Right now I don't know whether to laugh or shoot myself. I am out of training for another 2 weeks as he is afraid I will rip the stitches out as he pulled the skin so tight to close up the hole. The up side is that he feels sorry for me so he is going to throw in some Botox at cost and we yakked about the dark circles under my eyes that I hate so much and he showed me exactly how the surgeon next door could fix that little problem.

Been there done that with the melanoma years ago. Left with a 3" scar. Now I have them take everything off that even looks strange. Get a skin check every 6 months.

I still get some sun in the summer and on vacation, but no more tanning beds. In fact, since I stopped using them years ago, I have few if any new moles.

Temple01- I'm sorry. I had no idea that you were fighting skin cancer!

Thank God you know your body well enough to know that something was not right! Sooooo important to know the sign's and NOT IGNORE THOSE SIGNS!

I have a good friend who did not heed the warning signs of the "changing mole" on her back... The cancer spread into her lymph node's!

You are VERY lucky....Let your body heal---the iron will be waiting for you!

Thanks guys! I truly am okay, most just annoyed as it is interfering with other stuff that I want to do....like squats for example. I turn 40 in a couple of months and so far this aging thing is for the birds...in the last year my knees have gone to hell, my cholesteral has gone up, I have to have my urethra rotorootered a couple times a year, I'm spending a fortune on dermabrasion, botox and laser hair removal, I am now considering an eye lift and a boob job (not necessarily bigger just back where they belong) and so this whole little slice and dice thing we have going on is just the icing on the fricking cake. And while we are on the subject does anyone know if AAS accelerates the rate at which your hair turns grey cause in the last 6 months we have gone WAY beyond the pluck them out stage and into the color in a bottle stage. I think I am officially "high maintenance".

Very true, and good post. Just to re-emphasize...melanomas that spread can be among the most aggressive cancers out there. Don't screw around with odd spots or especially moles that change.

Hope you're okay, temple.

xoxo

Take care Temple, and don't go ripping any steel gnurling across those shoulders just yet - the "squat shoulder callous" doesn't seem to go with most tank tops :)
