Suprisingly, we are having a local contest 'round here. It's being promoted by my former gym teacher in high school. (He's the one who got me interested in weight training in the 1st place)

Here's his site: http://www.muscleforum.cjb.net/
(watch the popups)

The contest is on June 25th. This is what it said about last year's contest:

2004 NPC EAST COAST CLASSIC and DELAWARE STATE BODYBUILDING CHAMPIONSHIPS

and WOMEN'S FITNESS & FIGURE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Since it's local....it's close & convenient, but could I do it?? :worried:

hmmm...june 25th is 9 weeks out....

so.. a bodyfat range of 17-19% now might be doable

sew my mouth shut as hubby always wants to do?? ;)

it would be difficult....

BUT committing to something like that will stun you as to what you CAN REALLY acheive given a "deadline"

Well, I was just thinking: I have NO idea how to pose, don't have a suit, don't know how to walk in extreme high heel shoes, etc.....Plus, I'd have to learn all that stuff in 8 weeks....seems kinda cutting it close....

No pressure.

I would feel the same way.

You have plent of time

look at 24k

shes doing all this on her own...and doing it supurbly

Frisky pmed me yesterday...she found a suit in a color and fabric that we agreed on and it will be SMOKING HOT

it can be done

I thought the standard prep time was 16 weeks??

It seems like there is a TON to learn & I have no clue what I'm doing....Maybe I'll just go & observe Sass's show + this one & see what's involved......

Hmmmmmmmmm

And Frisky -- what color did you get?? And fabric??

My rule of thumb *is* take your bf and thats how many weeks it takes

buutttt.......

I also know that you can strip 1% BF per week...so if you do the backwards math

Jen....

seriously

LOOK

you are already putting in probably 80% of the effort...why not pick it up a bit and see where it takes you?

yeah do it!! think of this one as a practice run for the next BIG ONE!! all this will do is give you more motivation... now how bad would that be...

Jen that's awesome! 9 weeks cuts it a little close, but the worst you do is decide not to do it. Look around for someone who competes in your area to find out how to pose. The posing & suit requirements will obviously depend on which type of show you are doing. Of the two, figure is much easier to do because the requirements for posing are much more basic, and also you don't need to be as lean. However the suits are more expensive and can take longer to get. I would start looking around in your area also for some people who are maybe local who can do the suits and get an idea of how much lead time they need to do the suits. The competition season is now in swing and it can start getting real tight.

omg.. its a beaut... haven't got a price on the fabric yet but I LOVE IT.

it a black mesh with copper, red, gold an orange in it. ITS HOT! and differnent

Ill pm you the fabric swatch ;)

Careful with that. She needs to find HER normal.

My highest AM temps are between 97.6-98.1. Never higher. And this is only prior to my period and during my period when progesterone peaks and estrogen dips. Any other time, my waking AM temps are low 97s to high 96s.

ANd this is MEDICATED temps. SO you can imagine what my temps were before meds! :)

Well, I emailed the guy who's promoting the show. Maybe he can hook me up with someone.

Are you allowed to wear glasses in a competition??? :worried: I'm not allowed to wear contacts.

Jens.... I just saw this thread.

WOMAN GO FOR IT!!!!!! Yes it's alittle tight, but I think you can do it ;)

You know you have our support when times get rough :) :rose:

Do it Jens! Always try something in your life once! It's an experience and I'd do it for yourself!

:)

You CAN do it if you REALLY want to!

Just in case you missed my point....while 97.8 is optimum in general...its may not be optimum on an individual basis......

Hence the bit about tracking then looking for a dip

You can wear them if you need to. Can you take them off while on stage? The reflection off them can be distracting IMO. But you do what you gotta do too. (DOn't want to walk off the stage & into the judges ...)

I'm completely blind without my glasses. I couldn't see where the stage would be if I didn't wear them. So I have to wear them.

I've just never seen any figure women wearing glasses. At least Stacey Hylton cut her hair short -- so there's 1 woman with short hair out there.

Damn, I always miss the good threads when I go home.

Jen, I think you should go for it. It's great practice for the next competition. I am definitely routing for you!!! Is it in Wilmington? Oh, another road trip - your only 2 stops away from me. If you do it, there can be at least on EF member there supporting you.

 :rose:  :rose:

Yeah, it's at Kahunaville, which is right by the train station.....

I looked thru the site I posted (1st post) and was looking at last year's winners, etc....the girls look like they are wearing regular bathing suits, IMO.

I'll definitely post up what I decide to do....

But you didn't SAY that. You said when it falls below this set number (97.8) then you need a carb up. You cannot give that set number until you know what her temps are tracking at. You did not say that 97.8 is optimal for the general pop - but she needs to find her normal. You just gave a set number and told her if it falls below this, to carb up.

You might have MEANT that, or implied it, but it did not come out clearly in your wording. You wording was very cut and dry - and easy to misinterpret.

If I had started this thread, and you posted that number - it would have been completely useless to me. As my temp is almost ALWAYS below it.

Not trying to prove you wrong, or question your knowledge. You know I wouldn't do that.

So, basically, track my temps for a while to get an idea of what normal is for me. So, say my normal is 97.8 -- if one day it's 96.8 -- then that's when the carb up would occur??

LOL @ me using "normal" in anything pertaining to me.... :p

Capture your waking body temp for a week and note if its "that time of the month" or any changes to your general body state and that should give you a feel for what YOUR norms are.

LOL "normal" is relative ;)

what sass said....

track it....it wil fluctuate a little during ovulation(if not on OC) etc...

but you will see a general trend that wont vary more than 0.1 - 0.2 degrees....

when you see a general drop every 4-5 days - then diet manipulations need to happen

Temp for women NOT on BCP will vary throughout your menstural cycle (as previously mentioned)

General trend ....

During Period - high temps, due to high progesterone
After Period until Ovulation - lower temps, due to high estrogen
After Ov until Period - high temps, due to high progesterone

it is hard to make the general temp call in a week as it depends on where i nyour cycle you are. But you should be able to see trends over the weeks. I would temp every AM upon first waking, before you get out of bed, before you move.

I've been temping every AM for about 7 months now - it is awesome to see.

All righty, S&S -- took it this morning when I got up. Took me a while to figure it out, cuz I have the old-fashioned glass thermometer..... 97.8 this morning....

Going to order Cardio Breeze today. I can't get my rear in gear to do am CV -- too sluggish. Will order the CB so I can get a move on.

Guess that normal for the masses is normal for you

Jen,

How did you find out about the contest? Is their an official NPC website?

There was a poster up at my gym for it.... I posted the promoter's site on the 1st post & under the "Competition" tag, it had a 1 line thing & pics from last year's show....

Good call after one temp.

What can I say??

VERY FEW women that I have trained are more than 0.2 degrees on either side of that 97.8 number averaged thruout the cycle

SOme are..some arent..thus my post about logging it to see what the average is over time
