Mayo Diet

jagerbombme

BANNED
I know this isn't the mayo diet, but i know people that say they've dropped 3 pants sizes on the diet. first off anyone else run this diet? for those that have would it hurt to have a carb free fat free whey isolate shake thrown in the mix along with some egg whites. shake would be pwo, and egg whites would be snack between breakfast and lunch. everything else would be followed to the tee.
i heard 20 pounds in 2 weeks is the common, up to 55 pounds in 10 weeks.

The Mayo Clinic Diet
BREAKFAST:
1/2 grapefruit or 8oz unsweetened juice.
2 Eggs any style
2 Slices of bacon
Black coffee or tea, no sugar
LUNCH:
1/2 grapefruit or 8oz unsweetened juice.
Salad and or raw veggies (any dressing, {not low fat or fat free})
Meat (Cooked any way)
DINNER:
1/2 grapefruit or 8oz unsweetened juice.
Meat (cooked any way) Vegetables (any green or red, may be cooked in butter or Seasoning or a salad as above) Black coffee or tea, no sugar
BEDTIME:
(opt) 8oz Tomato juice or skim milk
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. At any meal you may eat until you are full, and you can not eat anymore. You must eat the minimum listed listed at each meal.
2. Do not eliminate anything from the diet, especially don't skip the bacon at breakfast or omit salads. It is the combination of foods that burn the fat.
3. The grapefruit is important because it acts as a catalyst that starts the burning process.
4. Cut down on coffee, it affects the insulin balance that hinders the burning process. Try to limit to one cup each meal.
5. Don't eat between meals, if you eat the combination of food suggested, you will not get hungry.
6. The diet may eliminate sugars and starches. Fat does not form fat, it helps burn it, so you can fry food in butter and use butter generously on vegetables.
7. Do not eat desserts, breads and white vegetables of sweet potatoes. You may double or triple helpings of meat, salads or vegetables. Eat till you are stuffed. The more you eat the more weight you will lose.
8. There may be no weight loss in the first 4 days, but you may lose 5 pounds on the 5th day. You may lose 1 and 1/2 pounds every two days until you reach your goal.
9. DRINK EIGHT 8oz GLASSES OF WATER EVERY DAY. 1/2 GALLON.

THIS DIET IS SAID TO BEEN GIVEN TO HEART PATIENTS NEEDING TO LOSE WEIGHT FAST FOR BY-PASS SURGERY.

ALL SOFT DRINKS NEED TO BE DIET AND CAFFEINE FREE.

YOU MAY NOT HAVE: White onions, potatoes, celery, peas, cereal, carrots, corn, starchy vegetables, bread, noodles, rice, potato chips, pretzels or fruit or diet dressing.

YOU MAY HAVE: Red onions, bell peppers, radishes, broccoli, cucumbers, green onions, leaf spinach, cabbage, tomatoes, green beans, lettuce, chili (no beans) mayonnaise, any cheese, hot dogs, cole slaw, regular salad dressing, green vegetables, 1tsp nuts, dill or bread and butter pickles.

IMPORTANT
STAY ON DIET 12 DAYS AND STOP FOR 2 DAYS
Works out great to start on a Monday because you will have every other weekend off of the diet.

The diet looks very stupid - low carb for most part, but then all the juice. Plus frying in butter? And no diet should be encouraging too much bacon - salt, sat fat

Ignore the silly fads

I think you lads are starting to diet like women, which we KNOW does not work.

These diets are something you do for a short period of time and then come off. The majority of people who lose weight through 'diets' (it is usually 5-10% of their bodyweight in one year), end up gaining back all that weight, they rarely maintain the new weight.

Shifting your body composition (less bodyfat, more lean tissue or muscle) requires permanent changes to your diet and lifestyle.

I am not sure about nutritionists at the Mayo clinic, but the last one I saw at my hospital was in the hospital canteen, she had a bum as big as the backside of a bus and she was ordering french fries.

Most of the basis for current nutritional recommendations is NOT based on firm scientific research, things like the food pyramids have a lot more to do with food industry pressure.

If this is a meal for people who have had heart by-pass surgery, there is a REASON they have had heart bypass surgery.

They clogged up their arteries with FAT.

This diet may be a big transition to something slightly healthier.

The issue with the body is that it does LOVE homeostasis (set points), it gets used to whatever we do to it, put into it, until of course the system is thrown out of balance and disease can occur.

These patients are probably used to a high fat, high refined sugar rubbish diet.

Shifting the diet too rapidly would also shock the system, which is something you don't want to do after surgery.

Pick up a copy of Tom Venuto's Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle.

Post up your diet here and see what adjustments can be made so that you can start to alter what you eat to make permanent changes.

This is also of concern to me, unless you are morbidly obese, this is not a good way to lose weight.

The general rule of thumb is that 1 kg - 2 pounds a week represents that you are losing fat.

In general, with WEIGHT loss is 75% fat, 25% muscle.

Rapid weight loss is not the way to go, you will lose muscle, which will slow your metabolism, and muscle is one of the major sites for the storage of fats, carbs and amino acids.

Stop the diet, most people start to eat 'normally' again ('hey I lost all that weight, I can reward myself'), and the fat, carbs and protein does not have as much muscle to be stored in, so it goes to FAT.

And our body can turn EVERYTHING we eat, carbs, protein and fat, into FAT.

The better way to diet is to take it slow and take of FAT, and tracking yourself with bodymeasurements and bodyfat is better. The scales are useful, but they don't tell the whole story.

my normal diet looks like this

That looks pretty sensible, better than the mayo diet.

Have you counted all the calories, carbs, fat and protein in it?

Have you read all the labels for hidden sugars?

Also I am not sure what you mean about 'FC-uking yourself'.

Post workout I am ravenous as well, and I often eat two meal much closer together than I do in the rest of the day.

At this time, it is a good idea to feed your body, as long as it is REAL whole wheat bread (a really good bread is hard to find)............

What are your goals?

Are you having an issue with losing bodyfat?

If so there are some adjustments to what you are eating that would make a difference.
