Making Weight...and meet results.

Making Weight

Any wrestlers, lifters, etc...with last minute tips on shedding a few pounds to make weight? My powerlifting comp is Saturday, I'm normally 185-190, but need to be under 181, in clothes, by Friday at 5pm. I started carb depleting yesterday evening and have dropped 4 pounds so far. I'm looking for any last minute emergency tactics I can use immediately prior to weigh in if I'm still borderline.

My brother used to jump rope in a sauna with a trash bag over him. What were your tricks?

I never had to be under any weight class... I have heard of several bodybuilders taking Ex-lax... although, I'm not sure how healthy it is. :)

Minimal water... maybe some light fiber clothes? That sucks you have to be in clothes... lol ... well, maybe not in your case.

If you want to avoid dieuretics... I don't really have any "tricks" other than the things you've mentioned... moon suits and such.

Wow... that's quite possibly the funniest thing i've ever heard.... picturing it is hilarious. :D

Low carbs, I mean low as in only about 50g per day also monitor sodium intake, try not to take in any salt. Starting five days out... Drink 2+ gallons of water per day, two days before the weigh in drink 1 cup of coffee with every meal(so 6-8 cups per day if thats how you eat) and the day before the meet try to maintain by eating little to no carbs. This will flush a shit load of water. Ex-lax does work as well, do it two days out if you use it so you can have time to get your stomach feeling better.

spats...this may sound crazy...but my friends who wrestle this year take a cup with them and spit into it each time they have saliva...they said it helps alot

who knows

I haven't had any carbs for over 24 hours...I'm fat fasting, low sodium, etc...got that covered. My question is more geared toward Friday morning/afternoon. If I'm still borderline...last minute emergency measures.

t3c, the wrestlers at my school did the SAME thing. I think some of them starting chewing just so they'd have something to spit.

Out of interest, what is your diet going to look like between the Friday weigh-in and competition on Saturday?

Go to GNC and pick up some herbal diuretics... Taraxatone and Dandelion Root together work well.. Just start it asap though...They take alot longer than the non-herbals... If you're really worried though you could use some low dose lasix if you have any available.. I have some I don't need that you can have if ya want... Just PM me.....

I'm already using taraxatone....guess there aren't any last minute tricks? Other than jump roping in the hotel sauna?

Rivaldo, dextrose and oatmeal...and R-ALA.

I decided NOT to try to make weight. After discussing it with Temple, who strongly encouraged me to chuck the idea, I decided to look up where my totals would fall. Turns out that the total I exppected to lift was Class II, whether I competed as a 181 or a 198. So I ate.

I came in feeling awesome. Got a good night's sleep, a long, hot bath and my lucky oatmeal, and headed to the contest.

It turns out I was the only woman competing, so I won Best Female Lifter and 1st Place...but, you know. I really wish I'd had some competition.

I got 3 for 3 on my squat, with the 365 pound final attempt flying up like I should've tried something closer to 400 (thank you, Bob!!).

I went 2 for 3 on the bench. I opened with 240, and hit the second attempt at 250, then failed on 260. By this point, I was just ready to pull.

I opened with 315 on the deadlift, and went 3 for 3 with a final attempt of 405 pounds going up easy.

So...

Squat 365
Bench 250
Deadlift 405
Total 1020

Not a bad first meet.

Everything was just the way I expected it. I knew the rules, was aware of possible equipment/apparatus issues, etc. Nothing was a major shock or disappointment, other than I had NO idea I should've squatted about 50 pounds more. Live and learn. I never broke a sweat, even took a snooze for a while. It was a long day.

Jim Gorrell runs a GREAT meet. It was well organized, and he was very proactive with lifter's concerns. He seemed genuinely appreciative that we were all there.

DG21 was incredible....incredible. 22 years old, totaled Elite. He's an animal. HUGE congrats to him. I will leave the number posting up to the guys, but everyone did GREAT.

....and I'll see ALL of you in STL in 12 weeks!!

Great job Spatts... Sounds like you' ll easily blow your Squat PR away next time... As well as your Dead and Bench.. It will be awsome to see what having some competition will bring out of you..

Awesome results, you just killed 99% of the men that train at my gym, that's awesome!!!

hahaha you just smoked about 90% of my friends and pound for pound I think you beat all of them except one of my brothers. Great lifts best luck for all of your future meets

Spatts,

Good job woman. Looks solid. I am not the first to write this but you got an edge on so many people in the gym. I'm not talking about the women in the gym either!

Keep it up.

Amazing job spatts. That is some serious weight. Like others have said ... I think you blew away 99% of everyone at my gym.

Excellent, excellent job. Although you had no competition, you ought to be very, very proud of yourself.

Got any more meets planned any time soon?

Yes. I'm planning on the APF St. Louis on Feb 22nd.

Thanks, everyone. The road there is twice the fun.
