Madden Football!!!???

I just got this game (I always play NCAA football prior) and my friend seems to think he's pretty good. I'm fine on offense, but I cannot stop his stupid short passes that he flings immediately after the snap. Sometimes he calls an audible (which i'm clueless on so far) and sends them deep. Anyway, can I get some help on picking a defense for these situations?

is it the pass to the tight end? If so, manually pick a guy on defense to jam him at the line... he won't go anywhere

Blitz him enough and he'll have to go to another play. I like CB and saftey blitzes when someone is trying to do that.
