i always do 4 with my left and then 4 with my right. then rack it. but your goals are prolly different than mine, regardless of the fact the barbells are still superior.Tomer said:thanks!
does it also make a difference if you do a set alternating legs one by one?
or do you think its better to do a set of left a set of right and then take a break?
thanks again!![]()
you'll find the barbell counterpart to be of a higher skill requirement. balance, synchronicity, etc. and i think that once you master the movement, you'll be more apt at other things.Tomer said:thanks ... i'm currently doing 6-8, but will stick to the barbell for the next little while and see how it goes![]()

.. also helps me with grip)Im sure somewhere Im going to get shit for saying this, but I 'heard' Rev BB lunges & AFT squats (given) help with the roundage of the glutes. Since I respect the person that told me, I have added them to one of my leg days to give it a go, plus since I've never done them before last week since I thought I'd fall over.WoNderWoMan25 said:Mix it up... ok.![]()
Benefits of a rear lunge vs a front/walking? Still working your glutes and quads... Is there a difference emphasis with one or the other? On what? The quads? Hamstings?

I do agree with Shadow on the DBs.
I will say that squatting like I have been has done wonders for building/lifting my booty ... I always hated squatting until recentlyWoNderWoMan25 said:Interesting. Roundage = Goodage
Thanks.
The Shadow said:I cant do reverse lunges.......the weight I use makes if difficult at best
florencia said:I used to do walking lunges with 70 lb barbell, got the done just right, BUT the burn on bootie is so much different with db...less weight BUT feel alot more burn because I concentrate muscle differently. How or why it happens???Beats me just feel better...and about Bunny's ATF squat...roundage...YES!!! I copied it and THERE is a differnece...LOL..pictures cannot lie...

tyvm. and that's why i sub excercises with equals. going from squats to leg presses is a joke. i'd rather do barbell lunges, or good mornings, hell, even pull throughs are better. on account of ya can't do 4 inch reps like leg pressing.....but i'm a meathead and think women should train the same as men.CaliGirl said:hells yeah they are harder...

..they for4ce more stabilizing action.....and in this case more IS better
walking lunges are a joke. sorry.jnevin said:I agree with that. My strength and balance has improved faster now that I've switched to walking lunges with DB's. I can go heavier with a BB, but my form suffers.
Stupid inflexible hip flexors...

lol. that's funny, cuz i can't incline for shit. i can bench 400+ and do OHP's with 225, but couldn't do inclines with 205.jnevin said:lol, you cak.
I'm still getting back in shape, but I inclined 225x9 Tuesday.

which brings me to my belief of not sitting down while at the gym. `cept between sets.jnevin said:I'm getting a lot stronger now. I'm squatting 315 for reps, like 4 sets of 15, I DL'd 405x6 easily (with straps), and can OHP 185x5 (seated).
I can only do 8 pull-ups.

IMO on the subject since I didn't read past the women lying about sleeping with men comment... Uhhhuummm
I like DB's on walking lunges just because it's hard to load a heavy bar on your back and then walk around a gym with feet of iron and plates hanging off each side of you. It's easier to maneuver with DB's around the gym. I like the stability component also. The only thing I would be cautious of (I catch myself and other people) is leaning forward on the step up in which you begin activating the back leg and taking the focus off the front leg. I think this would be a tad more difficult to do with the BB, well if you wake up with a stiff neck and sore back the next day you were probably leaning forward. the other thing is making sure your taking big enough steps that your knee doesn't go way past your toes.
I think if it is a stationary lunge then it could only help to switch things out and maybe try the BB. Or you could superset walking DB lunges, with BB weighted step ups. OR BB stationary lunges with DB weighted step ups.
