Lower back

Apart from deads

Hyper extensions with a twist (weighted). Grab a medicine ball and hold it at arms length in the relaxed position. During the extension twist to the side, as if your trying to put the ball behind u - eventually ending up holding the ball at right angles on one side. Then repeat for the other side,

hope this is clear...erm

Deadlifts are MORE than enough to give you a beast of a lower back.

You can also do good mornings.

I do not like high rep rack pulls or deads. Even though I push my deads into the 8 rep range at times I feel high rep pulling leads to bad form and injuries.

I am doing hypers three times a week along with squats and deads with no problems. As long as your low back is recovering from the high(er) rep hypers then I see them as fine. I would stay in the 10-20 rep range at first. I know Bill Star has some of his athletes do sets of 100 on hypers. I couldn't imagine the burn lol

The only problem with high rep anything is when you get tired your form goes to shit and THATS how you get hurt. Once your form starts to slip to much you need to stop or drop the weight.

I need to politely disagree with you here.

Yes, DLs will do a lot (even the majority) of the work on your lower back. But without an auxiliary exercise like hypers, reverse hypers or good mornings you won't get full development or reach your full potential.

Well, personally I wrestled for a while in highschool, along with deadlifts, that gave me a pretty solid back. Never did much of hyperextentions or good mornings. I find them rudementary and a waste of time and calories. But if it works for you bro, then stick with it. Not everyone coresponds the same to different exercises.

Good point.

Your wrestling may have taken the place of the auxiliary exercises I need.

It is also a matter of function. If I am not mistaken you are a BBer while I PL. I would make the argument that I need more from my erector chain than you might, an therein is my need for more work with that muscle group.

Plus who can argue with that friggin cobra hood of yours.:eek2:

My thoughts exactly. I looked at my back in the mirror today and was sooo dissapointed after seeing that back in so many posts.

I also agree with your PL statement.

I just about stalled yesterday on deads at 365 after adding too much weight. Since I have a week until my next dead, and my squats are progressing just fine, I added serious hypers in hopes of making some more progress.
