Lower Back pain (Myofacial) and Physical Therapy question

Posting here and also on Chat board...

I have been having severe lower back pain on either side of my spine for about 6 months.
After having to give up Squats and Deads, doing lots of stretching and other crap, it only got worse.

I broke down and went to the Dr (Rhumatologist as I already have RH Arthritis) and he gave me the lowdown.
It's called Myofacial Pain syndrome.
I have 2 big knots or trigger points on either side of my spine where the muscle inserts, and when you press on them, I about go thru the roof with pain.
He tried CortoSteroid Injections and It helped a little but it's still there.

He has stated that the only other option is Physical Therapy and something called "Myofacial Release" massage.

Question: Anyone ever had Physical Therapy for lower back pain and especially with this Myofacial stuff?

I was curious as to what to expect and the outcome long term.

thanks for the comments or info...

you can do self myofascial release. search the internet. most of the time its used with a foam roll and you feel pretty damn good after. there are some massage therapists that do it too.
i do it for some of my clients and friends sometimes. basically you are releasing adhesions in the muscle.

tell that doctor with the "needle" to go fuck himself. apparently if myofascial release was recommended then the other doctor was just looking to give you steroid shots because he didnt really know what else to do.

Thanks Nate, It's getting to the point where I can't sit in a chair for more than a few Min without having to get up and stretch.
I think I need to learn to stretch my lower back correctly, as my back is fairly strong.

Agreed regarding the needles. I was in such pain at the time that the Xylocain or similar stuff in the shot, not the Roid, helped a lot. After the pain returned he sugguested the PT. A lot of Doctors don't know how to treat this stuff apparently..

I have a ruptured disk. Not the same thing that you have but in the same ballpark anyway. Have you tried chiro? That an PT put me back in the squat rack. Just a thought, I feel for you man, hope you find a solution.
