Looking for a little advice (high blood pressure & liver damage)

I have a question/concern for my step-father....

He was recently at the doctors and was told that he has very high cholesterol and blood pressure and he also has severe Liver damage so he will be unable to take medication for his cholesterol/pressure problem. High cholesterol runs strong in his family. Both of his parents and sisters suffer from it. One of his sisters who struggles with it exercises daily and eats really well yet still she needs to take medication. His other sister, does not exercise/eat healthy but does take medication as well, she is also a smoker and she is sitting near obese. My step-father has a history of alcohol & other addictions (he doesn't drink anymore, 100% free from it) but he still smokes (A LOT) and is cutting down on doctors orders, one more thing, he has been addicted to MANY prescription drugs, I'm talking about pain killers and sleeping pills.

I find it confusing that he was prescribed Wellbutrin TODAY by the same doctor.... especially since he is still in the process of quitting smoking, not given a meal plan, and has severe Liver damage!! I don't know a lot about this drug, but I know that it has a lot of side-effects and that it was orig. a anti-depressant. He was also ordered another blood test (they did one two weeks ago too). And he hasn't been given any sort of diet plan to follow to lower his cholesterol - what???? My mom thinks that his doctor is clueless. And he probably is. I have heard stories about this doctor and they have never been good stories. But the thing is... there are no other doctors accepting new patients, it's really hard to find good advice. We pretty much have to do our own research and I know that he can't do it/ won't do it (he's old-school, you know, and his diet is NOT GOOD either)...

We're worried. Not sure what to do...

Trying to figure out some safe alternative methods in the meantime looking for some new doctors/consultations. Does anyone have any advice? Any more information needed I can get it for you. A diet plan made especially for him is what we're aiming to do right now...

He is heading into his 50's and has a semi-intense labor job. But works at his own pace (his own boss) He doesn't appear to be over-weight but he may be a little in the mid-section. I just moved back home a couple weeks ago and I notice that he doesn't eat enough...

Posted this in the Health & Med section but it's kind of quiet over there and I thought this might be a good place to put it as well....

Thanks!

some liver friendly stuff for the cholesterol and BP is milk thistle, garlic, and EFA's (I prefer krill oil because I get fishy burps no matter what I do...someone with a shellfish allergy shouldn't take it) all three work on both to some degree ..
silymarin (milk thistle) is actually prescribed by poison control for liver damage for some situations so its not bunk science

I'm not sure about wellbutrins effects on the liver honestly...people are prescribed it long term in huge doses but I can't imagine anything extra that isn't directly helpful to liver is a good idea either
good luck....I'd say try to find another dr if you don't trust the dr you're seeing ..maybe you can get him on a waiting list

good luck

Yep for sure find another Dr.
Also get him on a daily dose of 9 Liv 52 pills.
Just google Liv 52.
This stuff was developed pretty much for alcoholics and their liver issues.
Good luck.

Krill is by far the best.., especially need2s brand

This! And the supplement N2Guard that we run on cycle is great for liver support and promotes better cholesterol and bp. It is a little pricey but can you really put a price on health? I am running it now on a pretty heavy cycle and feel great. All levels chol, bp, everything in line.

Don't know if this helps or not. My husband's doctor prescribed Wellbutrin to help quit smoking, it helps to decrease the urge as one of the side effects and its covered by insurance unlike Chantix.

Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using EliteFitness

yeah...it also has an off label use for ADD ..my dr prefers to prescribe it for adult ADD

okay guys thank you so much for all of the advice!!! i really appreciate it and if you have any more please don't hesitate. still would really like to get a meal plan going. :)
