Leg Ext. and SQUATS

Girlwonder

How many of you do leg ext. first before doing leg press or squats? I do.

How come I find it much easier to lift more weights when I do leg ext. first...but I heard that to get bigger, doing exercises like squats and leg presses first would be the way to go.

Your always going ot be able to lift more on your first couple exercises before you get fatigued. Normally you want to do the hardest exercises(multi-joint, ones that recruit the most muscle) first like squats, then you move to isolation exercises later in the workout to really finish yourself off.

ok...I just bought a new home gym equipment and it doesn't include squat exercises...:( I heard that if you don't do "foundation exercises" like squats, you're going to have "legs like Olive Oyls"...What's that mean? Is that a bodybuilder joke(term) or something???

Olive Oil was essentially a stick figure. If you don't do "foundation" exercises, then you won't have nice, shapely fully developed thighs. Squats are the best thing a woman can do to have great thighs and a kick ass ass.

Yeah, but after you've been squating for like 18 years, you begin to appreciate a really good warm-up to those knees like doing a couple sets of extensions first. It really takes me a good 10-15 minutes of some decent exercises to get full power going. Also, I saw a pros work-out in Flex recently, don't remember who it was, but he did a couple sets of extensions before squats/hacks/presses, then did a couple more after. Just a thought.....

lol. oh ok.:D Don't the leg press work as well as the squats except that you need to use more balance when you do squats?

No, leg press is ok but definetly not as taxing as squats. Squats encompass pretty much the whole body. Meaning that your not just working your legs there are alot of stabilizing muscles that come into play. Squats also tax the CNS. One of the best exercises you can do IMO.

Yep I agree....your whole body will grow if you squat....I noticed a big difference in upper body mass when i switched to leg extensions only....Squats are king
