currently starting propecia(finasteride)1mg, legit from an actual pharmacy. crap cost me approx $70 for 30 day supply. expect in depth log regarding scalp and facial sebum production, effects on libido, and bodyfat calculation and hopefully no bodyfat redistribution. those that know me understand i am pretty "in tune" to the whole workings of androgens and the body. duration of use will depend on efficacy/cost (trying to get my doc to prescribe 90 day supply because cheaper or have him prescribe 5mg proscar. this is a lifelong decision that if going at the current rate i just purchased will be very costly especially with future children on the way.

first dose impression....slightly different taste than 5m proscar.
 
day 3-4, nothing noticed yet, strength still the same @ the gym, no change in face or scalp sebum production, libido still there.
 
Thanks for taking the time to log this. One thign i do is i mix the actual script propecia with generics. This makes the 30day bottle last a hell of a lot longer when mixing in generics. Finpecia and Fincar are both good and legit replacements for propecia...extremely cheap as well.
 
still able to maintain erection and ejaculation via spanking the monkey, volume seems the same.
 
still had an erection when a stripper sat on my lap yesterday. ejaculatory volume has decreased. went to the gym today, strength the same, muscles dont feel as "pumped" as normal, i kind of feel flat.
 
went to the gym yesterday, strength is still the same,,,face is starting to get a little puffy, this was also noted about a year ago when i did a preliminary experiment using proscar tablets quartered. skin does feel a litle dry on my face as well (although this could be from the low temperatures we are experiencing here in the northeast.), erection department is still ok.
 
the dry skin seemed to be caused by the cold weather and not the drug itself, it has been 1 month so far, nothing noticed in the scalp department yet.
 
I have been taking 1mg ED for over two years. IMHO all the hype is BS. I have had no probs as of yet.

I even run 2mg ED when I run a cycle.

The only thing I have noticed is the ej volume has decreased but the wife aint complaining.

I have never had a sexual issue and though the hair is a bit thin, I still have most of it.

I am 41.

nothing yet, scalp still the same, i hope to get some results by approx 3rd-4th month, although it might not be easy to notice since my hair is only thinning in the front and temple area for the past 8 years.
 
went to the gym today, strength still the same...forehead is not oily anymore when i sweat during a workout. armpit smell is still the same
 
nothing noted yet besides the decrease in forehead sebum production during sweating/workouts. i am getting a haircut tomorrow,,,just realized how many gray hairs i have on the sides of my head, i never let my hair grow this long before.
 
dude you aren't gonna know for about 6 months.

the hair grows in cycles. you have to wait for the dormant hairs to switch to a growth cycle.

seriously average of 6 months - 2 years to show results from anything, even finasteride and rogaine.
 
Damn, your face got puffy too? Is it still puffy.


I think this happened to me aswell on Propecia, even though i am around 10% bf and can fully see my 6 pack.


It seems to go down after i stop taking it for like a week.

I have been on propecia for about 2 months and I have suffered no side effects. I know people who have been on it for 3 years and have suffered no side effects.

I find this hard to beleive in all honesty.


Im in my early 20's, so maybe this has something to do with it, but i definetly lose my drive and focus, my sex drive and arousal is lowered, my ejaculation volume is lowered, and i beleive some of my energy is aswell. Also, that " feel good " feeling, you have when i guess your androgens are high, i lose that feeling on Propecia.



Im naturally lean and muscular and maintain a low bodyfat despite eating whatver i feel like, my sex drive is very high,ect, so my hormones must be in a good balance.



Propecia must mess up that balance. And yes my face does seem kind of puffy on propecia and off propecia it is back to its usually lean look.



I guess it effects everybody differently, but i find it very hard to beleive that if a young athlete took propecia, who has naturally high and balanced/optimal hormone levels, wouldnt get some side effects or be able to preform as well in all area's.
 
yes face is still a little puffy(sub q fat) and now it seeems like i am storing a little bit more fat around my abs and my butt, strength is still the same,,,it seems now rite aid pharmacy is charging even more for propecia, $83,,two months ago i was paying $78

back in 2006 my total testosterone level was 709 ng/dl,,,i might gat retested next month wit hmy next appt with my primary.
 
strenght still the same, nothing noticed yet in the hair department, gaining fat around my abs(no real change in diet or weight training)...
 
next week is my appointment with the doc,,,my main concern so far is the fat gain around my midsection that has occured in only 4 months,,another important concern is the cost of this drug @approx $80 a month (keep in mind you have to take this drug for life) 80 a month x 12 months a year= 960 doll hairs a year...960 x 40 more years left on my life if im lucky= $38,000(that is if the drug does not go up in price because it has allready increased by $5 since i have been on it.....hoping by that time they will have more effective/less costly treatment options for mpb.
 
went to md's, got script for 90 day supply,,forgot to get bloodwork ordered,,,my gut continues to grow,,no new hair yet,,strength the same, libido the same
 
90 day supply was $217 @ wallmart,,,still have the gut,,bodyfat has increased,,no real change in diet or weight training,,strength still the same,,feel less pumped though during my workouts..a few strands of hair seem a little thicker in the temporal area than a few months back, maybe its my imagination..,,libido is down slightly...credit card is hurting
 
All my medical problems have followed finasteride usage (headaches, mental fog etc). I'm not sure whether there is a connection, but this year I got my testosterone checked and it was 1.6 - basically the lowest u'd ever see from someone who still physically looks normal.

I haven't been on it for 2 years and have retained all of my regrown hair (I took it in 2005-7). All very odd as your meant to lose any regrown hair ASAP
 
I've been using DS labs Revita Shampoo for the last 6-7 weeks and I just started their topical spray Spectral DNC. I can say since starting the Revita shampoo my hair appears thicker and is not shedding. I started the topical the same time as Beastdrol (known to eat hair) and I am not shredding at all. I am very happy with the Shampoo and I will continue to use it. I will use the topical only while on andros. DS recommends using each product twice a day and so far I'm using each only once. They are worth looking into....

Thanks for the info on that. I'm using Nizoral 2% E2D and Nioxin Shampoo in between. Been going well so far. Maybe I could replace one of those with Revita? Then Spectral when using andros?

Maybe the Nioxin shampoo shampoo?

I've never used Nizoral or Nioxin, but I've heard a lot of good things about them. They seem to be highly recommended in the juicy juic world.

The Revita is just a great shampoo imo. I keep my hair short...so there's not much to wash and I still have 1/2 bottle after 6-7 weeks usage. They recommend washing your hair twice per shower with the Revita and I'm only washing once to make it last....
 
has been now exactly 7 months on propecia...i have noticed slightly thicker hair comming up in the front of my scalp(a few strands), nothing major yet,,,my bodyfat% is still elevated compared to before taking propecia..strength is still the same..face is a little more puffy...

how come you switched from proscar to propecia? isnt propecia and finasteride the same thing?

about a year and a half ago i did a preliminary 1 month log on PROSCAR(5mg finasteride) cut into 4 sections..approx 1.25mg daily,,,this was just done for fun and/or to see if any side effect was intollerable to me if i decided to go on long term use.

propecia is 1mg finasteride..fda approved dosage for hairloss

proscar is 5mg finasteride... used to treat enlarged prostate

there is insignificant differences in supression of the level of circulating DHT if you take 1mg or 5mg of finasteride (approx 70% reduction of DHT)

though 5mg was shown to reduce prostate size in people with enlarged prostate

it is even noted that dosages of 0.5mg and lower(if i recall corectly) was very effective in reducing DHT levels
 
erections are OK, libido is slightly decreased, mood is the same

muscles seem a little flat, cant seem to get a pump anymore while lifting..maybe im a little carb depleted
 
i will have to get a refill on my prescription tomorrow @ wallmart...it will be $218 for a 3 month supply.....and it is not covered by insurance. (there goes that new fishing pole i wanted)
 
oh yea,,armpits have been smelling very bad lately....no change in diet(garlic,fish,onion,dairy,spices etc.)
 
suddenly the lifetime channel seems like a quality network...just kidding...in reality though my libido is down..strength is still the same,,bodyfat is still elevated compared to before i started propecia. as for the hair department it seems like my hair is a little thicker in the front than it was 8 months ago, hard to tell though because i have decided to grow my hair longer..if i kept the same haircut i had for the past 15 years it would be easier to notice results...

it has been a little over 9 months since on propecia, i notice a few slightly thicker strands of hair on the front of my scalp/hairline....i did not notice any regrowth/thickening near the temple area...face is still puffy. bf% is still elevated. ejaculatory volume/libido is decreased..strength is still the same.i rented the movie titantic yesterday and cried at the end..jk

a family member stated my hair does not look as "dry" anymore.

since i have been on propecia i have had a constant craving for lentil soup
 
Went to the store called "ULTA" and bought a new hairbrush "cricket volumizer" to keep in the car since i am growing my hair long,,,.. some family members i have not seen in a year state my face has changed(i am well past my growing years)...went to the gym today,,strength was the same...libido slightly down. The girls at work are threatening to cut my hair because i told them i decided to grow a mullet.
 
ever since my last refill from wallmart of propecia it seems like my scalp has been tight and irritated, my skin on my face has been oily,,the tablets taste different than the ones i have been using for the past year..kind of odd...maybe its just in my head
 
wow, it has been 1 year on propecia now...the thing i have noticed most is the change in my face(not for the better)puffy cheeks. I have noticed slight thickening of my hair(most noticable is on the top back, noted by others as well) a few strands have thickened on the hairline(only noticable to me)...i did not notice any results at the temples.....my bodyfat has increased....strength is the same though..libido is pretty much the same..bank account has grown smaller..penis is still the same size(huge) lol

overall thoughts.....being on propecia is a lifelong decision..you must factor in many things including price which is a pretty big chunk...am i glad i went on propecia? some days yes,,others i would say no..

out of everything i would have to say the facial changes have made my looks drop at least 1 point on a 1-10 scale.
 
13 months on propecia,,nothing new to comment on.....oh btw..bed bath and beyond has a great sale going on now...im gonna slip into my pajamas and eat ice cream now..jk

i almost forgot...i went 48hours without taking propecia the other day and my forehead started to get tight and itchy.

it is noted that dht levels do return to baseline extreeeeeeeemely fast after discontinuation
 
i currently decided to stop taking propecia, and have currently been off of the drug for the past 2-3 weeks...the gains in bodyfat have been to much for me to handle and the puffy face made me look like crap...after doing more research it has come to my knowledge that 5 alpha reductase is the bodys main mechanism for deactivating cortisol/cortisone (yes i also know the 11HSD pathway but that also reversable 11keto to 11hydroxy steriods "basicly deactivate and reactivate)once corticosteroids are 5alpha reduced in the body they are inactive(for the most part) and can be cleared from the body..basicly 5alpha reductase is the rate limiting reaction of clearing corticosteroids from your system,,,,this could explain why there is some facial bloat while on propecia and some of the increases in bodyfat and decreased gains,,,previous thought that the higher testosterone to DHT ratio while on propecia led to increased estrogen/estradiol leading to facial bloat(this may still hold merit as well and could be a combination problem.

finasteride DOES effect the rate at which cortisol is metabolized, however it is noted by several studies of finasteride that it does not effect blood levels of cortisol compared to baseline. this does not take into effect local tisue levels in the skin etc...

let me ask you a question? Do you want the cortisol that is currently sitting in the layers of your skin/dermis on your face to be sitting there wreaking havoc and not being deactivated because your 5alpha reductase is being tied up with finasteride.

yes cortisol is also deactivated in your prostate via 5AR. something you may not have known

now your taking finasteride and type 1 5alpha reductase is working overtime to try 5 alpa reduce testosterone and corticosteroids (system overload,,, somethings got to give)

forgive my rambling

anyway the past two weeks while stopping propecia i have never felt better...skin is not oilly yet but facial bloat has gone down i would say 50%..i went to the gym and i have noticed veins in my pecs that i havent seen in over a year..pumps are great, and ejaculation volume is up slightly on average..if only i cane get rid of this fat(i have been skinny/ripped my whole life until propecia..now i look like billy crystal.

plus i save $218 every 3 months

will i ever go on propecia again...NO..do i accept that i will be bald soon and go through a massive shedding of hair.yes..do i give a crap anymore what women may think of my hair..NO..because my health and wellbeing is not worth trying to impress some girl.. "F" IT

my log was actual propecia from a pharmacy.

coming soon....lankys DHT heptanoate ester log.....already synthed and ready to go....the phillies seemed to like it in 2006.oops
 
Excellent log, lanky. My husband is a poster here and I need to direct him to your log b/c he's considering finasteride.

He tried the extra strength minoxodil earlier this year real briefly but hated it b/c it made the hairs around the treated area so dry they became very damaged. Even I can see the damage. No idea how people who are just loosing some hair, rather than actually bald, can use that stuff...just totally dries the surrounding hair horribly.

looking back at pictures of my hair i can honestly said it made my hair look better(had the opposite effect on the rest of my body though.

btw. i was on rogain briefly 10 years ago,,did not like doing daily applications with the messy liquid..

my next log is going to be high purity resveratrol in a month or so(expensive stuff)

not that im am aware of,,i was always interested in this chemical but was only able to handle taking the product for a few days because of the inferior 50% extract from giant knotweed extract that also contains a chemical called emodin which acts as a laxative...the product that i will be running is supposed to be 98-99% pure.

i may start taking it within the next month...already have the raw product on hand. based on gut instinct i think the supplier is a bit shady,,,we shall see......
 
just got my labwork results in the mail,,,i have been off of propecia since early march

total testosterone level 752 ng/dl (awesome)
free testosterone level 109

all other labwork within normal limits except billirubin which is chronicly elevated due to suspected gilberts syndrome

hdl/ldl ratio slightly worse (non significant changes from 4.5 years ago)

my face is starting to look normal again(chizzzelld)

just started taking resveratrol after the last lab draw.
 
have been off of propecia for approx 9 months. hair looks like crap again, and is actually worse than before i started propecia. i feel much better overall though.
 
off for over 2 years--hair worse than ever, started even thinning on the back of my head.

Finasteride works. Have you tried natural DHT blockers like lions mane and turmeric? they do work
