Lady Chaos at the Gym

2Shy said:
Well, I do take my multi, but will try to up the Vit. C and Iron. I've bruised like this ever since I can remember. Sometimes the only way I remember where I've been is by the bruises ....

Are you anemic? I am, and despite being vigilant about Vitamin C and Iron supplementation, it seems like all I need to do is touch a surface sometimes and the next day there's a big ugly mark. They take forever to go away, too - nearly 4 weeks ago, I was helping to carry some firewood out to a beach fire pit, the wood kept bumping against my lateral calf and quad, and a couple of days later, my leg was literally leopard-spotted up and down from the middle of my gastroc to my upper thigh like I'd been in a horrible accident. They only yesterday faded. I've been wearing a lot of pants.

Edit: it probably goes without saying, but too much Iron is toxic.

2Shy: as you described what you did I instantly said "OUCH" and cringed.

I have to say, that there is not a time I do not want out of the gym with some bruise, bump or mishap. For me it is very common.....and very much a part of my gym experience. Sort of like the Saturday Night Live Pratt falls that used to be famous, just about every powerlifter at my gym sees me coming and moves stuff out of my way....they have had to pick up the spill I seem to have every so often.

Sorry girl...more areas for you to hurt right now I suppose.

So, you failed to mention how your workout was!

Aaahhh - *sympathy sigh and pain*

That sucks! I haven't done the "hit myself in the head" thing (at least not lately that I can remember), but I was taught to bring dumbbells to your knees after pressing instead of just dropping them on the floor - and hurting your shoulder and those around you in the process. Every time I press with dumbbells, I end up with lovely bruises above my knees. Yes, there's a reason I always wear long tights to the gym. :-)

I forgot my head is wider than my peripheral vision! With skullcrushers I see the bar and know to stop.

Guess my mom should've named me Grace.

I've never been tested for anemia. Good thought. I'll supplement my iron (within reason). If I start feeling better I'll have my doctor double-check.

ROFLMAO! :D OK, I'll try to stop laughing and say something that helps you instead ... Take arnica ointment to the gym and immediately after something like this happened, put it on the sore spot. It's really incredible stuff, will prevent bruises like nothing else will!

Unfortunately it doesn't help when the bruises are already there ... I went cross country skiing for the first time in 10 years, a few weeks ago and had some argument with gravity (it won ...), had a black spot on my butt for over a week and a few days ago the itching was killing me :D Should've had that stuff over there too, but I didn't ...

LOL Matching bruises...that is funny!

There is one shoulder machine that I constantly hit my head on when I'm getting up. I usually do this for the first two sets...by the third set I remember to be careful. When I hurt myself, it's usually followed by a whispered choice word to two...usually fuck or damn-it.

It takes a lot to make me bruise. I dropped a 45 lb plate on my big toe...actually it bounced off my shin first. The pain was enough to make me take a 5 minute rest and my toe was swollen and red for 2 days, but I never got a real bruise. I do have a permanent indentation on my right shin from many years of walking into the open dishwasher door.
