Over the past several months I've been getting painful knots in my shoulder blades. Can anyone tell me how to treat and prevent them?

I have a same problem in my left shoulder blade. I cannot’t sit up or get to sit something down without sensation pain. How can I treat my pain?

the way you are sleeping is gonna make a difference. improve your pillow and mattress. get a soft top

also stretching is crucial after your workouts..

and acupuncture every other week will help, massages will make the muscle tense up more and you will hurt more. not a recommendation for bodybuilders.

If your talking about just inside the shoulder blades then I feel your pain.
Rolling on a very hard foam or PVC roller helps squash the knot but isnt pleasant feeling.
Acupuncture works. As does accupressure.

It sucks. Mine used to get so bad it would throw off my thorasic spine slightly and i would be leaning over a chair or something every 5 minutes all day long to crack my back.
Its under contorl alot more now. Having my wife walk on my back daily helps.

Yep that's the spot inside the shoulder blades. It's very frustrating for sure.

Ditto, wife walks on back daily. I have noticed since we been doing it a couple moths now that different bones are popping further up my spine and deeper in between my shoulder blades. Chiropractor could not move them but he did identify they needed moved. daily walk on back seems to massage and loosen the muscles as well as flex my spine and increase range of motion. Wife ways 105lbs, perfect for me. I you do not have a 100lb girl to walk on you, I would consider chiro if you can afford.

Foam roller n the wife walking on my back has help a lot.

Foam Roller is gold. Mine is made from PVC.

You can also take a tennis ball and put it inside a tube sock. Throw it over your shoulder while holding on to one end of the sock, lean against the wall, find that spot that hurts you and just keep grinding it in and around. I take mine everywhere (car, airplane, etc...)

Update: after months of wife walking on back, got a new 'pop'. There has always been a spot between my shoulder blades that felt like it should pop or crack when she was standing there, but never did. She implored a new technique this week. She leans forward on balls of feet right alongside both sides of spine, then shifts weight back and forth like kneading bread, @ 1 second per each foot. This(for me) helps to relax my muscles and flex my spine. So she was doing this, the 'pop' on right side real deep then 'pop' left side very deep as well. Very satisfying. I thought at the time it was that spot that always felt like it should pop. Still felt a little tight though. Well, guess what? It was, next day shoulder feels good. next day even better. Long story short that knot on my left shoulder that has been there for 2 years, has been gone fore almost 2 weeks now.
Still feels like one more up needs to crack for me. I have had this experience before. When we first started after a couple weeks got a big crack that was so satisfying. I do know this is standard protocal for chiros. they say can take months of adjustments to get a hard spot.
Oh, also another technique. I roll up a hand towel and put it under spine where i need to pop. Then she stands on my chest. Got a real good pop a couple times that way. I gotta be real relaxed though. If I tense up, dont work. took some getting used to, I was a little cautious at first cause I didn't want to get injured. Im confident now she is not to heavy for me, so now I take a big deap breath and as Im exhaling she steps on. This (for me) produces a good crack once a week or so.

Just wanted to let you all know, my back feels really good! Really Good! What a relief. Hope this helps.

Oh, I do foam roll regularly too, or tennis ball.

PVC roller is the way to go. Thats what I use. Its hell getting used to it but now its nothing. And its wayyy cheaper then those dense foam fitness rollers!

My wife uses the same techniques on my back. Works great. Sometimes I have to get her to borderline jump(no not literally) to get real deep cracks I need.

It gets the attention of TSA when you fly internationally with it in your suitcase.
