Ketogenic Farse??

I'm on the ANPB diet. And it seems to be working.. even though the 5 lbs. i've lost so far seem to have been water. So heres my question. I've read a LOT of places, even one of those e-books you can buy here on EF, have said that Keto or keto-like diets only really make you lose water, and 0 to little bodyfat. Is this true? Its got me worried that i'm wasting my time. Thanks for you help and insight everyone.

ketogenic diets work very well for fat loss, particularly the CKD. But if I'm not mistaken, the anpb isnt designed to take you into ketosis is it?

No, you shouldn't be in ketosis on the ANPD. As far as keto diets working for fat loss, well, I lost 100lbs from somewhere when I went on mine. That was fine and dandy but I wish I had been more educated on the subject of muscle preservation back then.

All diets work to a degree, some need a keto diet and some do better on other diets. I personally do better on a 50P/30C/20F diet but I know plenty of people who NEED a keto diet to get really lean.

Never forget the lean mass preservation aspect while cutting. Glycogen replinishment, ingestion of materials needed to begin repair/recovery/growth/stop catabolism are very key to losing FAT during your diet, not lean muscle tissue.

You cannot address that w/any type of keto type diet.

Slow and steady wins the race, and also allows the body to accept the "new" you over time, w/out shocking it w/some crazy approach that'll leave you to blow up like the world trade center once you resume normal eating.

Then what type of macronutrient breakdown would you recommend, SC? I'm bulking now, but I'd like to know how to set up a solid diet plan in the future for shedding the fat. I don't mind if it takes some time to work. It sounds better to me to make small changes.

as SC was saying, keto diets work, but they aren't the smartest (best) cjoice for over all dieting. There are some issues that come into play when going into ketosis (health, catabolism) and thus, it may not be the best option.

Ketosis isn't a catabolic at all, but what you have to remember is that doing an activity that is catabolic or undereating (forcing catabolism) leaves your body unable to "recover" because of the fact that glycogen isn't present in your muscle. Protein can be converted to glycogen but if your protein intake is high enough for synthesis to make a difference, you aren't going to be in ketosis anyway.
