I am a Cross Country runner. I train in the off season to build my strength, but it seems when season starts in the fall, I lose my size and can't keep muscle mass. I have tried eating more, but how should I supplement this in the gym? Do I need to worry about my muscle mass, being in an aerobic sport? Does anyone have any tips for this?

How many days a week do you run? How many miles at a time; or do you periodize your mileage work.

Reason I'm asking is if you're spending upwards of 5 to 6-days a week runnning then supplement with a 2-days (no more than 3), a week weight training and train with heavy compounds. THIS may solve your issue of losing mass during your cross country season.

I spend six days in a weeks running. Usually about ten miles at a time. We have two-a-days as well. I'll try your suggestion. Thanks.

Like slinky said, see if you can get 2 or 3 days a week in of weight training to maintain strength and muscle. But it is very important to eat a lot more food during season.....this will help you maintain your muscle. As much as it might be tough, load up on the food.....since your going to be burning so many calories running 10 miles a day. Then offseason you can cut the food and calories down to normal levels.
