I saw the original many years ago and forgot how great it was. I just have to say that in my opinion the kind of builds that Arnold and Lou had back then are totally superior to any modern day pro bodybuilder I have seen. Those guys had builds that seemed to not be that big but then when they flexed they had incredible muscle separation and size! I couldn't believe it! And the quality/symetry of the muscle was amazing. They had small and tight waist lines which looked great. Today's pro's have waistlines which are gigantic with their abdomens protruding as if they are disfigured. Another thing I liked is the fact back then (1975) the contestants came in with a light natural tan. When did it become so acceptable to come in painted with all of that bronze crap which looks like shit? Even if it shows a few more cuts is it worth it? Another thing is that today's pros seem to have bumps or little cysts all over their bodies (acne from drugs?). Arnold and Lou's skin looked liked a baby's bottom. It is me or do others agree?

Hey, arnold was one of the reasons i got so excited about lifting in the first place. And yes, to some extent, i agree that the bodies back then, although smaller, are more asthetically pleasing, especially with the small waists. Plus, i think they looked better in clothing back then. Like when arnold, or robbie robbinson wore clothes, they looked huge and had clothing that fit someone well..... Now adays, the huge guys wear clothing and they just look kinda bloated. Although, i can almost see the appeal of that. Like i figure they cuold get taylor made clothes that fit better, but i think having to wear some xxxxxL shirt is almost like a sign of hugeness,

Its funny though, when you see someone like Flex Wheeler, who has a more classic body with a tiny waist, standing next to the mass monsters on the stage, he looks so out of place.

I was able to catch it on cable recently, too. As well as the "Pumping Up: Making of 'Pumping Iron'" afterwards.

It's been awhile since I've seen it and I just love this flick. I find myself sooo enamored by the guys I see in the flick: "There's...Frank...Robby...Danny Padilla!.....Surge...Ed...Albert...etc." AND I've always liked Franco's physique more than Arnolds. Just a personal preference....

After watching it, I realized a element that has been obviously missing from today's Pros: distinct individual personalities as well as that camaraderie. I mean, those guys back then all trained together, hung out together...etc. Just would love to be a fly on the wall during one of their training sessions. Whoa.

And I completely agree: the physiques back then (up until the mid-eighties) were much more impressive than now. Much more so. *sigh*

I think the guys back then were much hungrier in terms of training. Of course, todays bodybuilders are much larger and powerful, but they are very unhealthy.
