Just prescribed Levothyroxine

As the title says, I was just prescribed Levothyroxine aka T4. Apparently I have really low thyroid levels, which is weird, because looking at me you;d think I have an over active thyroid. I'm extremely lean and am always in top condition, (it's mass that is difficult for me). I use AAS, but have never ever messed with any of the thyroid drugs (never needed to).

So - am I going to be EXTREMELY ripped now? Will I have a harder time keeping muscle mass than normal? I was prescribed 50mcg tablets once a day. Any thoughts? I'm pretty stoked since I carry no more than 9% as is...

Not sure, my wife had high thyroid readings and was prescribed synthrol. Are you saying that your results indicate an over active thyroid or an under active thyroid. What did the doc say Hypo or Hyper thyroidism?

Oh hypo for sure. And they did blood tests 3 months apart. Apparently I had a reading of 7 both times for the thyroid stimulating hormone something, which maxes at 4 for the high end of normal (negative feedback system). So my medication is essentially T4. I'm kind of excited, thinking it will help me burn that tiny layer of fat on my bottom abs - other than that I stay pretty darn ripped year round. I'm not bragging - i'm more ectomorphic so it's just the way I've always been. That's why is was surprising to find out I was hypothyroid. I do get lethargic at times, so this should help boost my energy as well. 50mcg seems like a high starting dose, but like I said I've never used or looked into thyroid drugs before as I've never felt the need.

I don't think that I would expect to get more ripped however; I would expect the fatigue to decrease, memory to improve, etc. Not too mention helping you prevent a host of issues down the road from no thyroid production. Diet is the only thing that can get that little bitty layer.

Hypothyroidism means you have an underactive thyroid, which means that your thyroid is not working properly. Thats why your doc put you on Levothyroxine. He's trying to get your levels normal again. This script is pretty much the norm as far as thyroid meds go, its pretty common. At first most docs will start you at 50mcg/day to see it helps, then they will bump you up to a 100mcg/day. You would not be on a thyroid med if you had an overactive thyroid or hyperthyroidism.

T3 is way more powerful. T4 does work though. If you feel like your muscles are getting flat then you may be dosing too high when you start taking it.

He Ryno, If theres one thing I know a bit about and thats thyroid meds and HypoT!

I would be very cautious using T4 as many many patients have contiuned and worsened SX from T4 only replacement! It does not give the full spectrum of Thyoird hormones ie T1,T2,T3 calcitonin) needed by the body, as desicated for example! Plus there are other issues such as Adrenal insuff and Fatigue from steroid use and Reverse T3..
Dont mean to scare you or anything, just hope youve got a good open minded Doc who will dose by symptoms and not whether your labs are within " RANGE" cause it varies widely for everyone!

You wont have a hard time keeping mass, as you are deficient otherwise your doc wouldnt have started you on it and your body needs it!

What thing is for sure, if you manage with the of your medication to have your thyroid levels within range then you will be as if "normal". However in the mean time, you may still be able to gain muscle mass and keep it but it will depend on you... your effort to reduce cortisol levels, avoid goitrogens, and get supplements that aid recovery.
I also tend to have high TSH at 65 mgc Levotyroxine per day. When in normal range, I feel and train like a mesomorph (I'm naturally ectomorph) but when on high levels, it is very hard to retain muscle mass.
I've had this for many years know, I am competitive fitness... so if you want any aid based on my experience, feel free to contact me.

Since you low,,,depending your dosage it may just put you in normal range.
